Vanity Gun Question: Bushmaster Carbine Question (ORC)
11/14/08 | Jace

Posted on 11/14/2008 7:51:10 PM PST by jacega

I so love my wife, she's awesome, and for my birthday, she bought me a Bushmaster ORC with a scope.

A Baraska 3X9X50mm Scope.

It's looks good on the carbine! But I've never heard of Baraska scopes, I'm gonna google it and see what I can find! Has anyone else heard of them?

If I can be honest, I wanted to ask all you Freepers if a Baraska scope, is a good scope!

I have no idea, never heard of it! It's kinda large on the rifle, but I was wondering if I should take it off, return it, put another scope on it, or keep it!

Any reccomendations?

Gonna go take it tomorrow to my local gun club and try it out (after cleaning it of course tomorrow morning).

You should ditch it and go with a Trijicon ACOG.

That's sho' 'nuff what I'm getting.

All Glocks are awesome. You can’t go wrong with a Glock.

In terms of the money issue, I may get killed before I can afford to buy the AR of my dreams, I suppose. But it seems to me that a reliable AR that sends the round where you point it and has the moxie to help you point it in the right direction is worth the money and worth the wait. I’ve been saving for a couple of years, and I think I’d better make my move before 1/20/09

So US Optics is the Real McCoy?

Yes. Quality at the very highest level (better than many “German” brands that are more famous. Made in America, and the company is owned and run by patriotic Americans that would fit in right here.

If you are shopping, give them a call, and real people will talk to you and help you pick the right scope for your needs. I personally own several.

The hipoint pistols work... but are really what I would consider.. a “junk gun”

The carbines on the other hand.. are GREAT little guns. A hipoint carbine is my wife’s home defense weapons. Shes not a shooter.. but can shoot good enough with this gun to get the job done. Its been accurate and flawless. Just wish someone made some decent 20 round mags for it.. but other than that, its a great deal.

Why do you consider the pistols “junk guns” I wonder? We use them in our security/bodyguard company and have had no problems with them. Never had a misfire at the range or other mechanical issues, and they have a lifetime, transferable warranty. We pay about $130 a piece for them. They are a bit heavy and not beautiful, but so what?

The scope is not a high-end scope... But don't ditch it... Just take it off and hold on to it as a "special luxury" that you want to save in the box "for special occasions and long distance shots". Your wife went to a lot of trouble to get you something that she wants you to enjoy. Were I in your shoes, I wouldn't say anything negative about the scope in front of her that would hurt her feelings - keep it positive with the phrases I used above.

Make sure you tell her how much you love her and how much you love the gift. You can be blunt and tell her it isn't a "great" scope, or you can be happy with it for what it is, and keep her happy too. Being blunt would serve no real purpose here. Besides, you might want to put it on a low-recoil .22 (would probably be okay on something like that with low recoil) and show off in front of her when you shoot Ritz crackers at 25 yards and make them into crumbs! Let her see you enjoy the scope at some point...

You have a good carbine, just put a good CQB optical sight on it such as a Trijicon Reflex II, an Aimpoint M4, or an EOtech and let her know it is for "close in work".

Regards,
Raven6

I guess junk would be the wrong word.. lol

They DO work, however are made of cheaper pot metal and are very heavy, also they are not the easiest guns to work on.

I guess I am just used to my glocks :)

Get the 300 dollar aimpoint.

Get at least ten PMAG 20 or 30 round mags for your rifle..more if you can afford it.

You really need to get all the mags you can. You might not be able to buy them in a few months.

That’s a Hi Point? Looks almost identical to my Beretta CX4.
