Still, hunting can be an expensive sport. It would be interesting to see how the entire industry did this fall.

True, that could be a factor.

They aren’t getting as many deer in Wisconsin because all the deer moved to Maryland.

Do you need any skunks? Congressmen?

License sales were up.

If sales were up wouldn't it be natural that deer kills would be up too? Something just isn't right here SJ.........I think the CWD has had more an impact on the herd than the DNR is admitting and the expanded season is an attempt to kill off more of the deer who may have CWD......In fact, total eradication of the existing herd may be the only salvation in the CWD areas.........and maybe the rest of the state.

Maybe they're waiting for a bailout.

The weather wasn't bad. Other than the first hour of the day, I didn't see any all weekend, which I attributed to several missig neighbors, no one moving them around. Registration station looked down too. This confirms I wasn't just imagining it. Nice to see license sales up.

In Michigan, I know people who did not take their annual deer hunt up north. If opening day was on a week day, drive up for the day, go back home for a day or two, then return to deer camp for the rest of the weekend.

My guess is that this year there were a lot less hunters driving long distances to go hunt.

They probably stayed close to home on opening day in less than prime area hoping for an cheap, easy kill.

Michigan started the same way. Opening weekend was cold and rainy. didn’t see anything saturday, nothing sunday until almost dusk. and i’m one of the ones that usually has one hanging by 8am opening day.
but between the guys that come out to the property i hunt, and the early sept season we had, we’ve gotten 5 so far- that includes 1 each for the young boys who are finally old enough to hunt, and 2 for me.

Hey! I haven’t had a chance to get out there yet, LOL! Tomorrow!

600,000 registered hunters in WI last I read. They’ll get ‘em. We have a long season ahead of us, yet.

LOL!

What the h#ll do you think I’ll be firing? LOL! Shotgun only in this stupid County. ‘The Hippies Leftover from 1960’ think rifles are too DANGEROUS to use around here. *Rolleyes*

Granted, a rifle bullet can travel a mile under the right conditions, but if it hits you from that distance, it’ll be like someone tapping you on the shoulder.

Stupid Hippies.

There are more deer in my back yard here on Humblodt Bay than in the hills east of us. They are the coastal Black Tail and it would take two of them to fill a small freezer. It is considered sacrilegious to hunt during the stupid rutting season...

We wait until after the rut. All those hormones running through the meat does nothing for the flavor. ;)

Anyhow...we were moderately successful today. All told five deer taken since dawn. We’ve done better. *SHRUG*

VERY GOOD QIANA! You are right about the rut tainting the flavor of the meat...

Long live the 70’s, Man! :)
