Need Some Books - Vanity

Baldacci, Robert B Parker, Jonathan Kellerman, to name a few.

I am interested in Baldacci. I read some of the story summaries.

For others who asked: these writers write generally Political Thrillers - generally anti-terrorism stories. Think James Bond, but for today where the enemy is far more nebulous. Most Freepers I believe will like reading Vince Flynn in particular, who I recently found out is a personal friend of Rush. Both authors (Thor and Flynn) use a evolving set of characters and the books all progress on a time line. They are also similar to Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler.

I am not much into classics. Thanks to all who replied. Even to the humorous posts. I especially liked the Archie Comics - used to read those when I was a kid (I am 43).

I do not know why James Michener books get the snob treatment by the intellectuals. They are amazing books and taught me more about history than any college could have. In fact, the books motivated me to read history books (for fun) and I continue to read history books to this day in large part to discovering Michener at an early age.

With Michener books, you can start anywhere, but my three favorites were "Alaska", "Space", and "Poland."

Thor and Flynn are two of my favorites...I think you would like any of the last books by David Baldacci, the last four or five by David Hagberg, Joel Rosenburg starting with the Last Jihad and ending with his most current. Together they present a very scary scenario

Watchmen by Alan Moore. Yes, it’s a graphic novel, which makes people think it’s just a ‘comic book’ and therefore can’t contain anything of quality, but it’s extremely well-written and intelligent and layered with more symbolism and imagery than any ‘regular’ novel I’ve read recently. And, after you finish reading it, take a look at the Wikipedia entry, then the movie trailer.

Thanks! I plan to also sample some of Brad Meltzer’s work. I liked the idea of a consistent character set like Thor and Flynn use. Also have heard great things about Rosenberg. I need to pick up about 4-5 novels. Boring trip coming up (ASTM meetings and stuck in a hotel room and two 2-hour flights and airport sitting).

Also, try Nelson DeMille's John Corey books
Plum Island / Lion's Game / Night Fall / Wild Fire

Amos Walker series by Loren D. Estleman. I would suggest you
get a library card and make use of searching for authors or
interests...you’ll save alot of cash.

J.A. Jance has a series with a police detective in Seattle that is worth reading. Harlan Coben holds my familys’ interest as well. Happy reading
