Need Some Books - Vanity
Vanity | 11/29/2008 | Tuxedo

Posted on 11/29/2008 9:12:27 PM PST by Tuxedo

I have read all the books from Brad Thor and Vince Flynn and am looking for someone's work along those lines to read on an upcoming trip. Any suggestions out there? I really enjoyed both Flynn and Thor. I have read Jon Land and was reading Lee Child until his last novel revealed his leftist leanings. Thanks for your replies!

Must the authors have one-syllable names?

If you’re young, you may not know of the exceptional books by James Michener, Ayn Rand, Robert Follett, James Clavell and many, many others, all available at used book stores. Cheap and in paperback, easy for traveling.

Ayn Rand should fit the bill.

I’m not familiar with the authors you mentioned.

But, the 20 1/2 books of Patrick O’Brian’s excellent Aubrey/Maturin series will make your trip far more enjoyable.

There's always classic literature.

I have something similiar that may work for you.

Have you ever read “Cathedral” by Nelson DeMille?

It was written in the early 1980’s. It’s about a group of IRA terrorists who seize control of St Patrick’s Cathedral (in New York) on St. Patrick’s Day!

That’s the easy description of the book. There are a number of plot twists and turns that you may find interesting. I know I did.

Not everyone in the book is as who they claim to be...

Speaking of classics, do not attempt to read Tale of Two Cities on a flight. The plot is so hard to follow it doesn’t distract you from your obnoxious seat-mate, and it’s so soporific you will be nodding off whether you want to or not.

Is it presuming too much to figure you’ve already gone through all of Michael Connelly’s books since he’s the best, hands down? Anyway, here are some other excellent authors you may not have tried yet: T. Jefferson Parker, Jay Brandon, James Grippando, Phillip Margolin, Thomas Perry. Steve Martini’s earliest books are great, as are David Morrell and Robert Ludlum’s.

Hope this helps.

Freepmail me if you want specific titles of the best books by the above authors.

I have some right up your alley. Think Vince Flynn meets Dan Brown.

I just read a book called The Judas Strain and it was fantastic. I just learned it was a series and that I had read the 4th. Here they are:

James Rollins’ Sigma Force Series

1. Sandstorm [Sigma Force Series Book 1]
2. Map of Bones [Sigma Force Series Book 2]
3. Black Order [Sigma Force Series Book 3]
4. The Judas Strain [Sigma Force Series Book 4]

PS ... liberals HATE this book.

Good book on guns, gun culture and some VERY good history on the laws that have led to the leviathan we call our federal government.
