So, I spent the day playing with the DUmmies over at Salon. Seriously, I think only one rational person showed up all day.
There was some conspiracy nut type from the right, supposedly, and a whole lot of very angry, vile, nasty, and incomprehensibly dumb rhetoric from the left.
I gained a new disrespect for Salon readers, and a new insight into the immense lack of thought that pervades the ranks.
It took you all day to figure this out? Do you ever venture over to Huffington Post?
hehe... No, I stopped reading HP a LONG time ago.
I never have bothered to read anything or participate at all at Salon, just figured it would be a good day’s entertainment.
This is a non-issue
Even if Obama were born in Kenya, his mother was still a US citizen, which would thereby confer citizenship upon him. No one seems to remember that the same eligibility issue was raised when Mitt Romney’s father George ran for president in 1968, because he was born in Mexico. It was ruled that since Romney’s parents were US citizens - who were in Mexico as missionaries - he was a legitimate American citizen. Even more abstruse was the question raised in 1964 over Barry Goldwater’s status as “natural-born” citizen: he was born in Arizona before it was a state. The challenge was quickly laid to rest.
If you need to get your heart started in the morning, look at worldnetdaily.com or newswithviews.com. It’s not enough for their writers to call Obama a socialist/I mean Marxist/I mean communist - now he is referred to as “Illegal Alien Hussein.”
Some people won’t take yes for an answer.
Why not just go over to DU and hijack their site for a little fun?
You will find that conservatives are the TRUE intellectuals. The left are indoctrinated fools.
I tell you these guys don’t have a clue what it is all about!
I only visit those site when they are in mourning about something. They whine and bitch and moan, threaten to kill themselves, promise to leave the country, see conspiracy’s everywhere. Cheap entertainment.
As I said before, on their site, these things should be settled in court.
SCOTUS needs to rule on several issues and end the ‘everyone has an opinion, but nobody has any authority’ situation we’re in.
Especially since Obama’s determined to continue his arrogance and condescension toward those he supposedly serves.
I did go to DU a couple of times, but they’re so paranoid it’s crazy. I watched quite a while and posted once about some non-political question, and got banned immediately.
Apparently, there’s a quotient you must meet for rabid conservative hating, or you don’t get to ‘stay’.
Their rabid conservative hating pussies. It’s almost impossible to post anything there unless you’re a gay-Chavez-climate change suck up.
That is why I rarely bother arguing with anyone on the left anymore. 99% of them are immune to reason.
I'm not saying there aren't folks on the right like that - there are. But it's not 99% (maybe 95% - just kidding).
Obama needs to release his hospital birth certificate!
You need to read the law that was in force at the time. It has quite detailed stipulations regarding how to determine citizenship.
If you take the time to read the law, it appears that Stanley Durham's circumstances at the time would not confer citizenship to Obama, IF he was born outside the USA.
My daughter was born in Canada. We had to go through all kinds of stuff to get her legally into the USA after we returned. We had to send both of our birth certificates, our marriage license, and her Canadian birth certificate back to the port of entry. She still could have chosen to be Canadian before her 18th birthday.
**Why not just go over to DU ... **
5 minutes at DU and I feel the overwhelming need for a SHOWER!!
Hope your showered after you were done...
Dude...you could of had a V-8.
OK, I read Perkins v Elg, the syllabus as well as skimming the decision.
Where do you get from it that Obama doesn’t qualify as a natural-born citizen?
My reading is that it supports his claim to be a natural born citizen.
In fact, the court approvingly cites an Attorney General’s ruling with regard to the son born to a German citizen who was naturalized as an American, then returned to Germany and resumed his German citizenship. On reaching the age of 20 the son attempted to refuse service in the German military on the basis that he was an American citizen.
The court cites, “Young Steinkauler is a native-born American citizen. There is no law of the United States under which his father or any other person can deprive him of his birthright. He can return to America at the age of twenty-one, and in due time, if the people elect, he can become President of the United States...”
From what I can tell, there is absolutely no distinction in US law between the terms “native-born citizen” and “natural-born citizen.” They were used interchangeably in common law and in other Supreme Court decisions.
If you have some portion of this decision that invalidates Obama’s qualification, please point it out.
Personal opinions on what “natural-born citizen” SHOULD mean don’t count.
