I know what you're saying, but still, the rules of firearm safety apply even in cases like this:
Rule #1: ALL GUNS ARE LOADED
... until you, yourself, unload the gun. And I doubt very much that Granny knew how to unload this firearm.

Ignorance is inexcusable.
I raised my daughter with respect for guns from an early age (used the NRA Eddie Eagle video as well). She's now 15 and a good marksman, and competes on her high school rifle team. I'm very proud of her. She shows respect, but not fear.
It's a shame nobody taught Granny.
