Help I have a Border Collie / mix Dog He is 1 1/2 yrs old, he is a very smart dog, The other night I had to go looking for him and found him on a deer.... still alive! He has a sisiter that is 6 months old and is a Black Lab /mix. she to was with him shortly getting in on the action. I pulled him off. and scolded him allthe way home, this moring I let them out and went in to bake a cake, 30 min. i called them to come in and no one came. I put on my jacket and when out to look for them. Just as I started up the 4 wheeler they both came running around the shop and both are cover in blood. I called to the boder collie and asked him to show me what he caught and he took me to the dead deer. Is this something I shuld be worried about? How do I stop this from ever happening again, some one help! There must be a way I do not want to have to put him down. thank you

Buy a really big freezer from Sam’s Club. Then, you should bring a gun, your hunting licence, and a hot cup of coffee and just follow your dog one day. When he leads you to a deer, take the shot and give your dog a doggie treat. Then take the deer to your local butcher. Put all 50 pounds of meat (in the form of sausage, steaks, and ground) in the freezer and be glad you don’t have to buy your meet from the store. Then give your dog another doggie treat.

When you aren’t hunting, put your dog on a leash or build a fence.

Get a fake target deer (you can find them for archery practice) and put a shock collar on your dog. Dog gets near the deer zap him. After a bit he won’t go near the deer.

Key there of course if he falls for the fake deer.

Just an idea.

Hmmm... border collie eh?

I feel yer pain. These are good dogs but demand to be dominated and worked.

Your dog sounds bored.

I understand that its difficult to find time to work with these dogs as you probably spend half of the day removing pawprints from the ceiling.

I really think the dog just needs more work. Dont let it become the alpha

Dog Write Hi, My name is Jette. I'm a pure bred Border Collie. I chase deer on my owners property. The idea of me taking down a deer is beyond my abilities. I herd them off the property back into the woods. Sometimes the deer charge at me but I'm pretty quick and stay out of the way of their hooves. I'm not sure of kin who are mixed though. You never know what else they have in them. Hope this helps. Regards, Jette

Borrow him? I think he/she could sell him for a pretty good sum.

"That is one amazing dog."

And, this is one amazing story. Not too sure that the name shouldn't be "butthead321."

Being a dog lover and afficianado, I am familiar with the traits of many breeds of dogs. I know the Border Collie to be a very intelligent and trainable breed.

This may be more than you can handle so I would recommend contacting a professional dog trainer and see if your dog can't be trained to skin and gut the deer.

It sure would save you a lot of trouble.

Good luck and let me know how that works out for you.

In Michigan, it’s legal to kill any dog running, chasing and/or killing deer. Period.

I have a Jack Russell that goes to Alaska and kills Kodiak bears. I just don’t know how to stop her. I took away her credit cards but she just turns tricks to pay for the plane tickets.
