  • Obama Withholds Clemency from Pot 'Lifers,' Devastating Families

High-profile inmates serving life sentence for marijuana crimes were not given clemency by President Barack Obama on Thursday, leaving their families devastated after long public campaigns urging their freedom. John Knock, whose sister Beth Curtis has lobbied for the release of nonviolent marijuana convicts, learned Wednesday that his application had been denied. Knock was arrested in 1996 and convicted in 2000 of participating in an international pot-smuggling operation. “It’s an incredibly painful disappointment that my brother – a wonderful person who is totally nonviolent – is going to die in prison,” Curtis says, holding back tears.

The First Family have traded their sundresses and shorts for winter coats once more as they returned home after two weeks of vacation in Hawaii. A downbeat-looking Sasha and Malia departed Air Force One for what is likely the last time when they touched down at the Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland on Monday. Malia was wrapped up in a red coat and lace-up ankle boots, while Sasha kept warm in a fleece-lined denim jacket and knee-high boots. Following close behind them were Obama and Michelle, both of whom coordinated in black and gray ensembles that matched the East...

Orlando, Florida (CNN)President-elect Donald Trump said Friday his supporters were "violent" during the 2016 campaign. Trump made the admission Friday night during a rally here on the Florida leg of his "Thank You" tour. During the campaign, he repeatedly downplayed violent outbursts his supporters displayed at times toward protesters and insisted that paid activists were instead responsible for inciting violence at his rallies. "You people were vicious, violent, screaming, 'Where's the wall? We want the wall!' Screaming, 'Prison! Prison! Lock her up!' I mean you are going crazy. I mean, you were nasty and mean and vicious and you wanted...

A nine-year old cheerleader stood alone at a football game as the fathers of her squadmates lifted their daughters onto their shoulders. Addie Rodriguez was alone because her father Abel is undergoing military training in California. “It was truly unfortunate to see your daughter standing out there being the only one without their father, knowing why he’s away. The Supreme Court’s recent decision not to take up challenges to state amendments banning same-sex marriage has had two significant effects – it has expanded marriage to 30 states and reignited the political conversation around marriage equality in the 2014 midterms. Since 2011, I have worked with Project Right Side to help Republican leaders navigate a radically changing electorate on the freedom to marry. While public acceptance of marriage equality has steadily increased, this moment may ultimately be looked upon as the point where Republican opposition to marriage equality began to fall in earnest.
