I was reading how Phil Gramm couldn’t be more pleased with the economy while he upset John McCain greatly by saying so being McCain’s top economic advisor. Its funny but if Phil Gramm had stayed in the senate, he would likely be the Republican nominee for this presidential election cycle because he was such a favored senate leader until he quit a few days before September 11, 2001, 911. I remember his announcement about not going to seek reelection coming as kind of a shock to me personally, but not really. It was like when Enron crashed a few months...

RUSH LIMBAUGH: A BOMBASTIC BLOWHARD, BUT OUR BOMBASTIC BLOWHARD! I’ve been listening to Rush, off and on, for some 22 years or so, ever since my bride told me that some guy had been on Sixty Minutes and he said the things I had been saying for years. So, of course, I sent for the transcript to find out who this alter ego of mine was all about. I discovered the bride was right. I don’t listen for all 3 hours of his syndicated broadcast; some days I don’t listen at all and on others I catch him for just...

It is common to hear folks betrayed by the Republican Party say things like: "The GOP is out of touch with its base..." Saying this is akin to a beaten house wife looking for something good in her abuser husband. "He'll change, I just need to pay attention to his needs..." My thoughts are that anyone who is still a member of the GOP is either suffering from Stockholm syndrome, or they support open borders. It is really that simple. Some people look to the GOP as an antithetical solution to B. Hussein Obama, but this is highly unfortunate manner...

For many African American Muslims, the fallout from the horrendous crime of Sept. 11, 2001 was not entirely new. The U.S. government's response was a bit of déjà vu for those, like me, who were civil rights activists in college during the 1960s and 70s. The only difference is that now we face a higher level of intensity. Our phones were wiretapped in the '60s and '70s and now our email is also being scrutinized. Our activist organizations were spied on then and now our places of worship are also under surveillance. Four decades ago, paid government agents and informants...

This November McCain will win the election. I am certain McCain will be our next president. McCain will win because he will get about 54% of the Hispanic vote ( Bush got 44%). The Democrats can not overcome that large of a margin going to McCain. This will be fatal to their party. McCain will get such a large percentage of the Hispanic vote because of his support for immigration and because of the natural unreported tension that exist between the Black and Hispanic populations. At the same time, Hispanic will split their vote and vote Democratic for Congressional election....

Greetings Freepers! This is my first post and I want to say at the outset that this post is not a cheap shot at either President Bush or the GOP. I am just looking for opinions more than anything. My question is, how much of a negative effect do you think the Bush administration has had on the current standing of the GOP in the minds of voters, and the resulting electability of GOP candidates? Is the current negative perception the fault of the administration, or does it have more to do with the mantra that the media has consistently...

Firstly - apologies for this not being a news story but I really wanted to ask this question! As you know, in the UK we have universal healthcare. A couple of weeks ago I had an interesting conversation with a conservative American tourist outside Buckingham palace (we were both spectators at the London Marathon event). I was telling him about a hospital visit I had had recently and he replied that he had originally been opposed to socialised healthcare - until he suffered from chest pains at Heathrow, an ambulance arrived within six minutes. Basically what I wanted to ask...

“Mr. President, someone wanting to visit the Capitol today, there is no place for them to gather. They gather -it used to be out on the East Front - now they gather on the West Front. And the people who work here joke about you can always tell when it's summertime because you can smell the visitors. And what we mean by that Mr. President – they stand out there in the high humidity, heat, sweating, and it’s really – there’s no place for them to go.” Sen. Harry Reid's Floor remarks today.

The Pope Kissing the Koran Below is a photo (see link below) of the Pope at the end of an audience with Patriarch Raphael I of Iraq, where the Pope "bowed" to the Muslim holy book, The Koran, presented to him by the delegation, and kissed it. Did the Pope, who in fact is the supposed "infallible" voice of the Roman Catholic Church not remember what The Koran has to say about Jesus and the nature of God? Did he not know how The Koran demotes Jesus the Messiah to "only a messenger of Allah" status? "O people of the...

Hi, I'm Nick and I am from Illinois. I'm writing on this page because I have been brought up to be very liberal on every issue dominating the upcoming presidential election. I feel like I kind of been brain washed into thinking this way and have this image of every right-winged supporter to be a redneck, gun crazy racist. Now I know that this is sure as hell not the truth, but the real truth for me is that I really do find it hard to agree with a lot of Republican ideals especially when dealing with illegal immigration and...

ARE YOU A COMMUNIST MR. BUSH? YES! I AM!!! This would be the answer if the question had been submitted before the collapse of Soviet Union! That does come out this conclusion for the current Prime Minister of U.S.A.? Simply Mr. Bush today, follows the vision of Stalin and Titos for taking territories from Greece following dance floor their dark drawing! The pseudonym state, nation and the language of Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia was Stalin’s dream. Stalin and Tito they manufacture then in August 1944 this state "in the frames of Yugoslavian Federation. They rename from VARDARSKA in" Macedonia...

For centuries, writers, philosophers and statesmen have written about the balance of power between words and arms, usually giving words the final victory. Perhaps that's what has made the Bush administration so very touchy on the subject of free speech. The administration's resident warlord, Vice President Dick Cheney

PIEDMONT, Mo. — President Bush Wednesday evening declared a major disaster in Missouri and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in areaa struck by severe storms and flooding. Residents of low-lying towns stacked sandbags or grabbed belongings and evacuated the region after a foot of rain pushed rivers and creeks out of their banks in the nation's midsection. At least 13 deaths had been linked to the weather, and three people were missing.

I’m a senior citizen conservative and I admit that I am scared of Barack Obama or John McCain, or any other of the candidates of becoming America’s 44th President and thus I will list a synopsis of things that lends to this comment. It is a no brainier that our country is in a mess and primarily we’ve no one to fault but ourselves. I’ll eventually make my point. The nation’s infrastructure is in its worst. Our roads are in disrepair. Our sewer, water, and gas lines are rusting so badly that it puts our health at great risk. Our...

The New York Times' story about John McCain's "Affair", Ron Paul, Conspiracy theories, Saving the Earth, Outraged people, Political moderates, Those who want to impeach George W. Bush, Oprah and all of her "friends", Every member of the Kennedy family living and dead, Militant Atheists. All of those things in the foregoing eclectic list have one thing in common and if you can't figure out what that is immediately then this post, in all likelihood, will irritate you at some point. You see everything listed above is boring. By that I mean tiresome, dull, uninteresting and tedious.

Hillary on the Offensive February 12, 2008 8:44 AM So what will these next three weeks look like, until we hit the March 4 primaries in Ohio and Texas where Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, is looking for a win? They could get pretty tough, if last night's candidate interviews on WJLA, ABC's Washington DC affiliate, are any guide. You can watch them in full HERE. Or you can see our Good Morning America report from this a.m. on the interviews HERE. "I have been vetted, I have been through this," she said. "I understand exactly what is coming at me….I...

I cannot believe the Democratic party is going further left then the God awful Kerry fiasco. Can someone knock some sense into these morons? Apparently Obama is anointed and beyond questioning. In democratic circles if you say he is inexperienced untested or bring up Rezko and his Chicago corruption, you are labeled a racist. Apparently the Democratic party is to politically correct for me. If this guy wins a nomination because people fear talking about his lack of a record and his inexperience I will be not only voting for, but campaigning for the Republican nominee! I am serious and...

I have been listening to Rush ream McCain a new one day after day and I totally understand all of the points Rush makes. Here is what I don't get, Romney will NEVER win ! The only people that will vote for Romney is us. He will get ZERO independents and ZERO moderate Democrats. The most conservative candidate has worked for the GOP in the past, this isn't the past. This election is freshly post Bush with many PR problems within the party. In the general publics mind, the GOP is about as refreshing as week old road kill. As...

I was thinking of supporting McCain but have since changed my mind. There are WAY too many Democrats and Liberal newspapers behind him which raises a huge red flag. I'm boycotting anyone who supports this guy, namely Fox News Channel, Oreilly and any segment with the Liberal Shepard Smith. I am not planning on participating in the November election, if I do I'll vote Democrat out of pure spite.

By HILLARY CLINTON February 4, 2008; Page A15 Throughout my campaign, I have been listening to the voices of people across America. I met one man who told me, "I don't know what I did wrong. I got my education and I worked hard. I've been at the same company for 12 years now, but I've just been asked to train my successor because my job is moving to another country." Another woman said to me, "I just can't make ends meet. My health care premiums have doubled, college tuition is up. How am I supposed to make it as...

Seven years ago George bush and the republicans gave a tax cut to the wealthy. We had a recesion and as far as Im concerned we never recovered. I was working as a telemarketeer and my husband was at an assembly plant. In 2001 my husband was laid off after his job was outsourced. Then I lost my job too. My husband now works at Target and I held a job at Burger King. A week ago my job was terminated after buisness wasn't so well. Now were in another recession and Bush wants yet another tax cut? If cutting...

By now, readers will know who I favor in the Democratic race. Here's my most considered case. But what of the GOP? For me, it comes down to two men, Ron Paul and John McCain. That may sound strange, because in many ways they are polar opposites: the champion of the surge and the non-interventionist against the Iraq war; the occasional meddling boss of Washington and the live-and-let-live libertarian from Texas. But picking a candidate is always a mix of policy and character, of pragmatism and principle. And what these two mavericks share, to my mind, is a modicum of...

Is there a case for John McCain? Disclaimer: I haven not affiliated myself with any campaign or even made up my mind as of yet. I do live in New Hampshire. Heading into last night’s debate I was experiencing the same problem many of us are facing this cycle, I am not thrilled with any of our candidates. Like most, I find some pieces from each candidate I like and hate. Prior to watching the debate if I had to vote I was between Mitt and Fred. Last night’s ridiculously run debate did help, but not solve my problem. Fred...

November 21, 2007 Rod Filbrandt Dear Uptight Seattleite, Where I'm from, if someone comes up and tries to engage you in a conversation about how Hillary is leading an army of My Little Ponies in a secret war against the NBA, the proper response is to avoid eye contact and move away quickly. But you people, despite your reputation for unfriendliness, seem remarkably willing to engage in conversation with random crazy people. I heard one woman say to a man in soiled pants and a ripped, puffy jacket, "Well, anyway, at least it's Friday!" As if on the weekend he...

PHOENIX (AP) — A 9-year-old boy looking for help after his mother crashed their van in the southern Arizona desert was rescued by a man entering the U.S. illegally, who stayed with him until help arrived the next day, an official said. The 45-year-old woman, who eventually died while awaiting help, had been driving on a U.S. Forest Service road in a remote area just north of the Mexican border when she lost control of her van on a curve on Thanksgiving, Sheriff Tony Estrada said. The van vaulted into a canyon and landed 300 feet from the road, he...

A nationwide movement to turn Hispanic immigrants into citizens and voters is focusing on Florida and four Southwestern states that may decide the 2008 presidential election. Hispanics make up a large share of the electorate in Florida, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada, and each of these states could swing either way in the presidential race. While New York and California are bound to cast their electoral votes for a Democrat and Texas almost certainly will vote Republican, Florida becomes the biggest swing state. The four smaller Southwest states have emerged as a battleground, partly because of a surge of...

Frontal Assault on Freedom: FBI Raids Liberty Dollar Posted by BJT on Nov 15, 2007 Read this email closely. I just got it this morning. Those of you who consider the gold standard a quaint anachronism, pay extra close attention. If Ron Paul supporters, gold standard advocates and the Liberty Dollar were nothing but harmless kooks, why would the FBI raid their offices when no crime was ever committed? This is a currency competing with the USD, yes, but they never, but never make the claim that it is legal tender or anything other than what it is: private currency....

Think you've got problems? Consider the perils of Susan Estrich. Divorced, she has to eke out a living as a lawyer to support her two children. The demands of that job mean she doesn't get to see the kids as often as she likes. She is overweight and lacks the discipline to exercise regularly. Her house is a mess, and unethical rug cleaners wrecked her living-room floor. Wait, it gets worse. Her nanny lacks medical insurance because the application form is too confusing for Estrich to fill out. Estrich herself has health care, but complications from a recent surgical procedure...
