INDIANAPOLIS The Indianapolis Colts have scheduled a press conference for 5 p.m. today, presumably to announce the future of head coach Tony Dungy with the team. But FOXSports.com is reporting today that Dungy has already decided to step down.
According to the Internet report by NFL writer Jay Glazier, Dungy is "walking around the team's complex saying good bye to players and team employees and informing them that the transition should be a smooth one for new coach Jim Caldwell."
A source told Glazier that Dungy explained that he has talked it over with his family and they believed this was the proper time to step down, while the Colts nucleus was still in tact.

Dungy is a great person and man of faith. Some of the local Indy hack writers (notably Kravitz) got on him as an “underachiever.”
Hey, after coaches like Kush, Infante, Meyer and some other lovable and not so lovable losers, as a Colts fan I’ll take Dungy’s style of “underachieving” any day.
I hope his successor can be as successful. I doubt it; the Colts need some serious upgrades, mainly on the O-Line. But we still have a Hall of Fame QB who is still in his prime.
And the rumor is he’s named Mike Nolen as his defensive coordinator.
I am going to miss Tony Dungy : ( However, I am glad also because I know he’ll have more time to do good work for youth and spread his faith. I am still sad, he’s a class act and I will miss seeing him out there on the sidelines. God bless Tony Dungy!
The Niner's have had their share of problems under Nolan, but their defense has not been their biggest one, if anything their defense has been one of their few bright spots (Frank Gore and Joe Staley being others).
Nolan was in over his head at SF and probably will do well as a defensive coordinator.
Is it official yet? I ‘ve been pretty busy at work and didn’t hear anything yet.
And in an absolutely unrelated matter. On his 15th and final try, Rickey Henderson is going into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Talk about the difference between night and day?
Here you have a selfish, arrogant athlete who played way past his prime just to break a record. Then you have selfless, God fearing Tony Dungy, who thouroughly understands his role in life.
I guess anyone that has a SB ring is considered an underachiever because of all the quick playoff exits. I can’t think of a statement as full of crap as that.
Football and sport needs more Tony Dungy’s, that’s for sure!!!
I remember the superbowl win and how when Tony Dungy started the interview, one of the first things out of his mouth was his priase for god and his faith.
The reporters got all upset and then they kept trying to spin it about race and Tony being a “black coach who won the superbowl”, but he kept shutting them down and refusing to promote EPSN and the MSM agenda of 24/7 black victimization. Bravo Tony. Total class act.
convictions? How can a pro-life pro-christian person vote for, let alone endorse, Obama?
That’s my one gripe with him. Race trumps all - Cosby, Colon Powell....
