On Obama's agenda, according to his White House website, is the goal to "encourage diversity in media ownership."
Obama elaborates on the site that his aim is to "encourage diversity in the ownership of broadcast media, promote the development of new media outlets for expression of diverse viewpoints, and clarify the public interest obligations of broadcasters who occupy the nation's spectrum."
The plan apparently aligns with longstanding Democratic suggestions to resurrect the "Fairness Doctrine."
The policy was abandoned in 1987 under President Reagan when there were 75 radio talk shows in the U.S. Reagan opposed the policy because it required broadcast TV and radio programs to air "opposing views" on political issues, which had the practical effect of virtually eliminating opinion programs.
Since abandonment of the Fairness Doctrine, the number of radio talk shows has risen to more than 3,000.

“How about a few 50-100K watt transmitters just offshore”.
...that is EXACTLY how Sean, Rush et al will operate. Long term it would be best. Going on XM could be a waste. Not enough listenership. Although if XM is willing to pay...quite possibly.
Liberals dominate the TV and press. Would Conservatives be given equal time on those media even as the Liberals would get equal time on AM radio?

You'll have a few who could survive that way, but any station that still has a local talker will replace his show with gardening talk. Essentially you destroy the minor leagues where Rush's or Hannity's replacement will come from.
It seems we keep drawing one line in the sand after another. Many say if government does this then we are going to rise up against its tyranny. Yet, we step back and draw another line in the sand. The destruction of conservative AM radio is not acceptable, just as burying my AR15 in the backyard is not acceptable.
If they knock out broadcast media, it won't take much (especially with an activist judge), to reword or apply the same to the internet.
The FBI has Carnivore developed during the Clinton years. The NSA has Echelon going as far back as the 70's. I'm sure, especially since the WOT, that these systems have been radically upgraded throughout the years.
Maybe a few innovative techies could hide for awhile. But not many, and not for long.
And even IF theses systems aren't currently as all seeing as some might think, the money and resources applied to development, by a narssasist like Obama, who won't stand for dissent, will be HUGH and SERIES.
Take heart in remembering that the Founding Fathers didn’t have the technology we have today, and they were successful in fighting anti-American enemies! :-)
God is in control, and on the side of right! If God is for us, who can be against us?? :-)
This is the way it looks and won't open up.

That’s too much trouble
I want to see the Chinese language radio station be forced to offer progamming in Spanish, in the name of “diversity,” so the Chinese can be exposed to Spanish culture. < /sarc> < not really>
Next obama will do like the USSR did for years run frequency jamers over broadcast bands.
