Mean time before failure has been used for around 60 years. Average time usually in hours before something fails. It is not uncommon for electronics to fail with in 90 days. Brand new equipment often has a higher failure rate than year old equipment. The item with manufacturing flaws fail quickly and the good stuffs last.

Quite true, that's why I stay away from extended warranties, if it doesn’t break out of the box it will usually last forever.
