A teacher at Irving Middle School in Colorado Springs has been placed on paid administrative leave after she was accused of making a racial slur to a 13-year-old student.
The mother of the 7th grade boy tells 11 News the teacher used the term Wednesday in the middle of class, in front of all of the other students. The student was reportedly talking to friends when the teacher repremanded him.
His mom says the boy stayed through the end of class but went straight to his next class and told the teacher what had happened. The parent and her son had a meeting Wednesday with the principal and the teacher.
The parent tells 11 News the teacher admitted to saying the slur, but claimed she didn't realize what it meant.
The boy's mother says she is having a meeting on Monday with the principal and someone from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEO).
School District 11 spokesperson Elaine Naleski has confirmed to 11 News that the teacher is now on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
I = If
You would think that they would at least tell us what the racial slur was!
With no mention of what the horrible, demeaning, destructive, racial, hateful ... word ... was.
Probably “monkey”.
Oh probably something about his Mexican heritage.
I dunno. The EEOC doesn't actually attempt to do what their name implies, they simply want every employer to fear the government. In my experience, governmental entities violate EEOC guidelines more than private employers.
Honkey?
Since when did the term "Wednesday" become racial? :0)
Prolly “Mr. Bean”
Not here. I’m surprised they told you the school district.
Most laws of this type will be perverted. Another example, the endangered species act has been used as a bludgeon to the head of honest people literally since it's inception.
If you haven't already, stop by Free Dominion sometime and read about the antics of the "Human Rights Commission."
The Edangered Species Act of 1973 caused the “Prebles Meadow Jumping Mouse” in CO & WY to spend millions on mitigation of the habitats...and then DNA proved its the same as millions of other meadow jumping mice. Oh well.
If it involves a minority, it could be the most innocent word. They will make up stuff just to get money. I remember a case of somebody claiming using the word "niggardly" was racist. Also "water buffalo," "monkey." The funniest case was of a judge (in Texas?) who had a fit over "black hole."
roflol!
Macaca?
My cat Wednesday is (don’t tell anyone I said this) black.
That's what I was thinking. Blacks seem not to realize that white people call their own kids monkeys all the time.
Sometimes, the things that people take as an insult tell you more about them than anything else.
Niggardly with the facts.
