I saw the other day, a story about Massachusetts introducing legislation to make it mandatory that helmets must be worn while sledding.

“We’re from the government, and we’re here to help you” !!!!

I used to do the same thing for my kids, but not on such a grand scale. I live just down the road from Buffalo, in Rochester, NY and we get some pretty snow winters as well. I think it was the winter of 1993-94, we were getting hit with snowstorms every 3 to 4 days. It reached the point where there was no place to put the snow anymore, so I got a wheel-barrel and moved the snow by the front porch and just kept on piling it up. I built a nice bobsled (what I called it, but it was like the guys in the video) run that ran across my front yard and through my neighbors yard. I iced it down and my kids and the neighborhood kids had a blast sliding down it! We got so much snow that winter, that I was also able to build an igloo in the backyard.

If it’s going to snow so much, we might as well have fun with it!

Cool. Where does she train. I know there are no luge/bobsled facilities in Farmington! LOL Closest thing is the Olympic ice skating rink in Simsbury. Salisbury? Don’t know of anything there either.

I’ve been on top of the luge drop at Lake Placid ............in the summertime. Not something I’d like to do!

She trains at lake placid and park city UT, as I understand it. It’s been very cool following her progress these last couple years. Her dad is very proud of her, and with great reason.

Big problem, though, is Home Depot has recently had to let the Olympians go. They used to have guaranteed (more or less) jobs so they could train and compete as necessary, and when not being an olympian, they worked at Home Depot. No more, though. Big hit to the finances, and they have to pay for their own travel, and buy a new pair of $5,000.00 runners each season.

Olympic training is very expensive, no matter what the sport, so I can appreciate her and her family’s dilemma. But if it’s a dream ...hey. Go for it!

I wish her the BEST!

Remember her next February in Vancouver!

Half my co-workers proabbly have no clue. I just got a DVD today of all her Eruo racing, pretty cool! I don’t have the guts to do it!

I will!

Does she go to Farmington High? A friend of mine is the principal there.
