Police Kill Family Dog During Raid (yet another isolated incident)
ABC News ^ | 2/7/09 | Jeff Hager

Posted on 02/07/2009 3:04:18 PM PST by ellery

"They hit the door right here and the door flew open," says Mike Hasenei, standing outside his Elkridge home.

His wife, Phyllis, was watching television with her 12-year old daughter when members of the Howard County Police Tactical Team came through the door.

"They had guns pointed at us. You have 25 guys coming in here all dressed in black and all that we saw were their eyes, and they're screaming 'Hands in the air!'"

Members of the team were acting upon a tip that an assault rifle, magazines and hollow-point bullets stolen from a marked police car the night before may be located inside.

Adding insult to injury, when the search led police to a back bedroom where they encountered the family’s dog, they opened fire.

Officers found no evidence of the stolen goods after ransacking the house.

At this point a complaint has been logged against the department, but Howard County Police aren't about to admit they were wrong or to apologize for their actions.

"No. We didn't find a weapon in this particular case,” said Sherry Llewellyn, a spokeswoman for the department, “but that doesn't mean that there wasn't good information that there were weapons there before we had a chance to get inside the house."

Now, Mike Hasenei is waiting on an Internal Affairs investigation into the raid before deciding whether he and his family will take the department to court.

"I'm not gonna sit down and let people walk all over me and say 'sorry' and walk out of my house."

“Before the hysterics start and the gossip between the back fence of the trailer park results in spilled beer, perhaps judgment can be reserved until more is known about the assassination of the Chihuahua.”

Owning or renting a manufactured home makes so much difference, assassination? Chihuahua? spilled beer? nice neighborhood or not?

You sound like a really low class person, no matter what your income is.

Ah, the Police state of the People's Republic of Maryland.

Thank god my parent got us out of that place.

“anyone reading this trust your government?”

I wonder how many decades ago it was when I did trust the government. I think it was back in high school, before I knew our government.

I have never distrusted the government more than I do now.

Disturbing development number one thousand happened yesterday, when it was made public that The Fuhrer wants Rahm Emmanuel’s dirty hands on the next Census. Oh, nothing suspicious about that is there? Nah.

I wonder how long it will be when a homeowner fires back ... runs to where his gun is and opens fire on these people ...

Australian Shepard just like my Border Collie ... smartest gentlest dogs around .... higher IQ's than most cops ....

This happens all the time. Dogs are protective of their home and their owners, and the cops don't want to get bitten, so they eliminate the problem.

I have instructed my wife that if a cop ever comes to the house, the first thing to do is put the dog in its crate. Of course, if they break into the house suddenly, that may not be possible.....

Possible defamation. She's saying the Hasenei family is guilty, regardless of the results of the raid.

They may be testing their ability to get away with it. If they can get away with such blatant destruction of private property then how easily will they be able to kill political dissenters? That day seems to be getting closer and closer.

What is it with swat teams and their penchant for shooting dogs? Is it just that in the absence of anyone or anything else to shoot they just have to shoot the dogs? Ban all no Knock raids, period, they are unconstitutional and need to be stopped NOW. My parents would not have stood for this kind of sh** and I don’t see why we do.

I heard from a reliable source that Sherry Llewellyn had the gun. Now go search her house.

That is all it takes to bring out the “Rambo’s” in LEO’s.

Ever notice when someone is let go they always say "we didn't have enough evidence to support a conviction"

It's never, we had the wrong person or he didn't do it.

Everyone they arrest is guilty, they just didn't have enough (read no) evidence.

Yep, the only dog gentler is a golden retriever. The frickin’ gestapo is obviously programmed to always shoot the family dog regardless of what it is. Don’t you just know the 12 yo in this case is going to have a wonderful view of cops in general? Yep, sarcasm intended.

Before the hysterics start and the gossip between the back fence of the trailer park results in spilled beer, perhaps judgment can be reserved until more is known about the assassination of the Chihuahua.

Maybe you should take some of your own advice...

Personal attacks simply show weakness. Plus it is easy to be nasty on a computer. But it is still bad manners.
