What made America great
Tennessee Encyclopidia of History and Culture ^

Reading the market opening figures this morning showed a spike up, due to the merger of Plough and Merck. Of course it means nothing, but since I was born and raised in Memphis, it made me think of the past greats and what made America great.

I am sure Abe is rolling in his grave now.

Freedom is what made this country great. Government intrusion in our lives is stifling initiative and tearing the country down. I doubt it is much exaggeration to say that if a kid opened a lemonade stand today, he would be investigated by the IRS for failure to report income, by the city for failing to apply for business permits, and by the Health Department for not passing inspections. Oh, he should have done an environmental impact study and he shouldn’t do business without liability insurance either.

Free parking. Where's there's no free parking, freedom is in danger.

I am sure Abe is rolling in his grave now.

He, and our Founding Fathers, are spinning like gyroscopes.

And of course the state would come along and demand proof of Worker’s Comp coverage. Then he would have to deal with the people who check to make sure sales tax is being paid. And let’s not forget the zoning compliance people, can’t have a business being run from a residence, now can we? Wage and hour would get involved too since he’s probably too young to be working.
