Firefox 3.1 beta 3 "done," Firefox 3.5 beta 4 due April 14

Firefox 3.1 Beta 3 is done and beta 4 is slated to be released on April 14.

That’s the latest from the Mozilla Firefox team, which held its weekly meeting on Tuesday.

Q&A is expected to sign off on the long delayed beta 3 on Thursday and the beta 3 web page should be up and running tonight, a key Mozilla Firefox developer said.

As expected, the team last week upgraded the code version number to Firefox 3.5. The new naming with appear when beta 4 makes its debut.

The code freeze for beta 4 is planned for April 6, but some developers were a bit skeptical that the current number of remaining bugs — 94 in all — can be whittled down to fewer than 10 in three weeks.

~~snip~~

Firefox 3.5 — formerly known as Firefox 3.1 — was originally expected to be available in early January but the team opted to add key new features such as private browsing and Tracemonkey. The decision pushed back the release from the originally planned date.

You could consider Safari.

If you haven’t already, look at the Release Notes. There is a wealth of information there including “Known Issues” which covers some of the known problems with Firefox 3.0.7

Did they fix the crashing issue in Vista? I had to roll back to 3.0 since the most recent version would continually crash in vista.

Yup, just checked it. Still works. Thanks for the tip.

I usually start with a couple or three letters, and the drop down automagically limits itself to matching entries, so the one I want is almost always shown in the 10-12 listings that drop down. I didn’t like it at first either because FF3 will match strings found anywhere in the URL, unlike FF2 and ‘normal’ browser behavior which is to match only at the beginning, which results in a LOT more matches and it’s a little disconcerting and sometimes harder to find the one you’re looking for. You get used to it though, and it IS better for searching when the unique word isn’t at the beginning of the URL.

They probably name them the same way developers name streets in a sub-division....have a big party and when everyone is three sheets to the wind they start naming streets after their kids, dogs, mother-in-law,etc.....sorry to say I’m not kidding, I’ve been to one and got to name a street.

We used to rent from a middle aged couple and the wife’s father was a developer who had done a few neighborhoods in town, and there was a street named after her.

Why not just set up some 'tags'? Should work better for what you want i'd think.

Not really. For example, with FR, I just type “fre” or “free”, and get in the drop down the News and Activism page, all the keyword search result pages I regularly go to, and my ping page (which at some point changed in title to “Page Load Error” due to a couple times it wouldn’t load and now won’t seem to change back). Maybe I’ll try deleting it now that I know I can and when it comes back maybe it’ll be right again. You don’t happen to know if deleting a certain page from the list prevents its reappearance in the future, do you?

Lately viewing yahoo/news videos using Firefox(3.07) has been hit and miss at best.

I named a street after the collie we had as kids...FLUFFY.

I have been having a lot of browser crash issues with Firefox 3.0.8 and 2 days ago I loaded Firefox 3 Beta 4. It is much more stable, have had crashes, but not nearly as many.

Have been using Altavista (Yahoo) search engine. Did so because I did not like Google’s politics. May have been a mistake. I think a lot of the crashes has to do with scripts from Yahoo.

Have learned to not trust Yahoo, during the ramp up for the elections. Had e-mails frozen when handed from my local ISP to Yahoo mail servers. 2 days later received a message the my e-mails were “being held for testing”. This was before Obozo was elected.

It is a brave new world gentlemen.

Haven’t really had a crashing issue that I can attribute to FF, wife and grandchildren could be major contributing factors. ;)

I use Ask.com for main search engine, google only when necessary.

Not a major fan of Yahoo either, but ATT partnerned up with them, so I have to deal with them indirectly. Never had mail held though.

I’m using Firefox to view Free Republic, and at the very top of the page, to the right of the Firefox logo, I see a string a chinese characters. Does anyone else’s Firefox browser show this?
