I don't even remember installing it. In any case, I didn't install it, no one saw me install it, and you can't prove I installed it. I just want it gone.
Mac OS X Version 10.5.6
Safari Version 3.2.1 (5525.27.1)
You probably know about technology than I do, but I have an iMac (OS 10.4.9). I click on Safari and then go to Yahoo, thus avoiding Google.
Enjoy your $5.00 latte and get used to that Google spam along with it, and tell all your buddies about it on your iphone. (Ain't Socialism just great?!)
Of course, if you refused to believe all the propaganda and still bought one of those dreaded Microsoft products, you would still be easily able to get rid of those annoying Socialist browser tools.
You installed it by default by failing to uncheck the little checkbox.
I googled remove+google+toolbar+mac and found people asking the same question, and getting blown-off. I'm not familiar with Apple enough to know a reputable website, and I'm not going to pick one at random where people suggest, "here's how--download this simple tool."
Didn't check that Apple website because I don't want to spend the morning there trying to find out the answer to a simple question.
“Whats the big deal about Macs, anyway?”
Macs are the computer of choice for hippies.
What application is showing you the Google toolbar? Is it Internet Explorer Mac?
Apple's web browser Safari has an integrated Google search function. I'm very familiar with the MSIE Google toolbar problem in the Windows world, it's one of the limitations of MSIE that its default settings will accept executables without asking.
If the toolbar is only present in MSIE, I's switch browsers.
If there is a wrench icon, click it and select uninstall.
I’d try going to “Reset Safari” under the “File” menu and then clicking “reset”.
If that doesn’t work, try going under “File” and then “Preferences”. Maybe there’s some kind of uninstall feature there. Or right clicking (yes with the new Mac mice you can right click) somewhere around the toolbar. Maybe you’ll find some kind of uninstall feature with the right click.
The Reset Safari is probably your best bet though. If all this fails, I’d write to Google about it.
Whoops, I meant “Reset Safari” (and “Preferences”) under the “Safari” menu.
Are you talking about the Google search bar in Safari? If so, go to View, Customize Toolbar, and add or remove whatever you wish. I do not know how to put a different search engine in the toolbar. However, if having a different search engine in the toolbar is a big deal to you, download Firefox, which does allow you to pick from any search engine.
Just stop using Safari. Download Firefox and use it. It’s better anyway.
The URL address and Google search are default settings and can’t be separated as far as I know. You can reduce the size of the Google search my putting our cursor over the little dot that sits between them and sliding it right. You can hide the tool bar completely by going to “view” and clicking on hide toolbar, or right-clicking on that same dot, but those moves will eliminate the whole menu bar.
Intel Macs make it possible to play PC games. One of these days I'm going to get myself one, but I've got two perfectly good Macs I use everyday, so I'm not going to blow money on something I can do without for now.
Wait, so my dual core Intel mac will play a pc game if I install it on my HD? NO WAY! Really? So I could buy Metal Gear or some other game not made for mac and play it on my machine?
There are few problems that can’t be solved by the application of enough high explosives.
Can you play Windows games on an Intel-based Mac?
Check the web as there's probably newer info out there.
You didn't install it, Apple did. It's been there since day one when Safari was introduced.
It was once possible through a hack, to change the default search engine to something other than Google... but that does not work in Safari 3.
Unfortunately, Apple has chosen to make the URL address field and the Google search a unitary tool... you can't delete one without deleting the other... and least not easily.
There is a method to remove the Google tool... but it causes problems with the Signed Application signatures for Safari in OS X.5 Leopard, because it screws up the signature, indicating that the application has been hacked and prevents Safari from running properly... and apparently locks it from accessing your Keychain for security.
Way... but you have to install Windows to do it. Purchase Parallels or VMWare's Fusion. You can also dual boot your Intel Mac into Windows or OS X. If you do it that way, your Mac is a very fast Windows system.
