Police were called to an East Side gas station early this morning to investigate the theft of a burrito.
According to an Evansville Police Department incident report, the clerk at Moto Mart, 1900 N. Green River Road, called 911 after a man microwaved a burrito, took it out and ran from the premises. It happened about 4:30 a.m.
The burrito is valued at $2.79.
Police are hoping to review surveillance video from the store.
The burrito thief is described as a black man in his early 20s, about 5-foot-10, clean-shaven and with a thin build. He was wearing a gold hoodie and black jeans.

Hardly worth the police time. This two-bit crook may become more brazen in the future, but how much police/prosecutor time should be devoted to this clown?

He will probably do this again and again and again, if not caught.
Shoplifting is one of the major losses that retail firms must deal with.

If mini-market places want to prevent this type of dine and dash, have people pay before microwaving any food.

To reduce theft, never sell a burrito smaller than this:

A gas station burrito will cause this guy more problems than any cop ever could. Besides, if he lives in an apartment, his neighbors will turn him in...quickly and gladly.

Hardly worth the police time. Actually, it's the police's job to take the time. Unless you want this store to put up a sign that says, "Free Burritos."

Hardly worth the police time. This two-bit crook may become more brazen in the future, but how much police/prosecutor time should be devoted to this clown? When does it become theft? When he comes back every night? When he brings five of his friends to help themselves to free burritos? When he takes a 12 pack of beer with his free food? The next thing you know, we're talking about a real loss of inventory. Pennies add up quickly.
People commit these types of crimes because they know nobody will do anything about it and the next thing you know we're reading an article about a guy who stole a $2.79 burrito, never mind the fact that during the course of his life, he's probably already stolen thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.
