Simple fact is, we didn’t. Oh, wait...
I sure grew up without it. I am in a high profile technical career, won’t pay for a cell phone (don’t need the leash) and only carry what the boss puts in my hand... at this moment a text pager I’ve had for 10 years.
It never occurred to me that mine was a life lacking the necessaries. The boss knows where to find me if I am needed.
The NappyOne
"I'm just devastated by these parents that allow their children to do and say anything they want."
Physician heal thyself. Make new laws because I'll never..., I can't..., I won't..., I'm devastated... maybe if YOU taught her not to send naked pictures of herself over the internet, she'd be around.
Sorry for your loss, but I won't share in your blame.
Does that include mothers who’ve gotten into car accidents while talking on a cellphone?
Completely symptomatic of the Modern America mindset.
A real tragedy, engendered by modern technology, current social mores and the apocalyptic nature of life as experienced by a teenager.
Answer, more laws.
Well, we do have bicycle helmets required for kids.....
Thanks. If our family was still in Minneapolis, I’d consider him having a phone.
In the little community we’re in now, eyes and ears are everywhere. People know each other and that’s a very good thing.
Agreed.
There must be cell phones without a camera.
There are. There are also kids without cellphones.
Texting is replacing voice talking for teens and twentysomethings.
I forgot about that one
I don’t know, why don’t you tell us. How many children have died while their mother’s were talking on a cellphone?
I told them it will take all of the pressure off of them if any friends try to get them to smoke. All they have to say is my parents test me. Everyone of their friends know that we have the test.
You know what? I get the sense that some of their friends wish their parents cared as much.
I don’t think I’ve ever read a story of a cell phone saving a kid’s life. Please share some...
What’s your tally of teens who were being saved by cellphones?
What were the circumstances?
Abductions? Gang activity? Bully beatings? Random acts of violence like bank robberies?
Yours was a silly argument. If you are going to venture the point, you should post the first statistics.
any ideas on why?
Daddy was there. He is supporting mom in blaming every other kid but their own.
Of course I will always be there to throw as many many downfield blocks as I can, but my old legs may not carry me that far.
Despite my best intentions, he may not choose to follow my lead block, but I will make it damn clear in the huddle that the reason he got pummelled is because he did not follow my lead.
Seriously? What teenage boy would get a naked picture of his girlfriend and NOT show it to his buddies? I suspect that's been going on as long as there's been an ability to capture pictures on film. That's like saying the taxpayer is going to trust that the government isn't going to waste our tax dollars when we send it to them. (Except that we have no choice but to send the government our tax dollars--this girl had a choice.) It was her choice to take off all her clothes, position a camera remotely to photograph herself, and forward it (likely over the telephone airwaves) to her boyfriend. Shoot, anyone with some technological expertise could've intercepted the photo and circulated it.
It's the girl's fault. She created the picture that brought her shame...but I suspect there's more to this story than what we're reading.
I think that you are missing a major part of the thinking behind what happened. This young lady thought that her body was her most important asset. She was essentially giving herself to this young man, who did not value her the way she hoped.
That is the sad part.
My grandchildren’s cousin sent a picture of her breasts to a boy!!! The boy is the son of a principal and after he had shown everyone of the boys on the basketball team, including my grandson his father found it. Yikes, that girl is stupid.
I told both of my grandchildren that if they get any messages like that they are to delete them ASAP and there is no question about sending them, I will tar their rear ends and take their phones away and then they will have to deal with whatever their parents do to them and their parents are way tougher than I am.
I think you are the one not understanding. That is not something that requires suicide.
