They push boundaries. But some want to see that there are boundaries.

And it probably does give them an out. If the friends are that deep into substance abuse, perhaps he needs a change of friends (voluntarily).

There are people who never went through a drug phase and adults who still snort in cocaine several times every week.

Where does they see themselves in 5 years?

It all comes does to self-esteem. Substance abuse can be a means of self-medicating. It can also be just a means to an end... acceptance (as with hyping OBAMA or sharing naked photos with someone). Say this, do this, smoke this, listen to this, wear this... and you’ll be one of us...

That is what is sad. The girl thought that she had nothing else.

How did we survive without cars and electricity?

That's an excellent and apt comparison, Matt.

It's tempting, as a parent, to want to grab the ball yourself and use all the knowledge you've attained all the way down the field, but it's the kids’ turn to show what he can do.

We as parents, have a place, and it's a key role, but if the kid gets decleated because he hasn't got his head on a swivel, like you taught him, you can only lend him a hand to pull him up.

I told both of my boys that their worse day will be the day that someone is at my front door saying that they have an e-mail or forward that was sent by my son. My boys may not control what they receive, but they fully control what they send.

I also tell my boys do not send, type, of forward anything that they do not want on the front page of tomorrow's newspaper. That is where your e-mails go. This generation has no respect for confidentiality. They have no honor to each other. I have friends that have told me things in confidence 35 years ago that I have never repeated.

While growing up, we all endured what we thought at the time was the end of our life due to humiliation. We got through it somehow. Became stronger and thicker skinned. And realized that no matter how bad it seems, we can be tough enough to work through it.

I will never understand the few that decide suicide is the best way to work through it. There is something wrong with them from the very beginning, imo. I’ve hypothesized in the past that they lack meanness. I think back when I was young and it seems there were times when my biggest motivator was to get even. That was pure meanness. If you don’t have that, maybe you are susceptible to suicide. I don’t know.

It’s a girl’s fault when she gets pregnant too. Never the boy’s. Nope. And if she’s gang banged, that’s just the boy sharing, right?

It was a violation of trust to pass it along. And it is a criminal act when the girls are minors.

I agree that I do not want my kids to hang around with kids who do drugs. But that decision comes after the discovery that a friend is involved with drugs in some way. The first incident is always the point of discovery. My son has changed friends. We had two eigth graders kicked out of out junior high this year. One lasted at his second school for two weeks. The problem is out there. I want to teach my kids to make the right decision. I also want to help them make the right decisions. In today’s world they need every tool you can give them.

Suicide and abortion are both permanent solutions to temporary teen “problems”. And they are both selfish acts.

We finally broke down and got my daughter a cell phone when she turned 14. Using her business case for why she needed a phone, I got her one that can place and receive calls. That’s it. No camera, no picture mail, no nothing. (I added text later).

What the industry needs is parental controls on cell phones like we have on computers today. These would have the ability to turn functionality on and off, like the camera which seems to get kids in trouble the most.

My company shuts off all cameras on company issued phones. There is a way to do this. It is done with Blackberrys

Thought you would appreciate the football analogy.

I know it's always a scary time to be a parent, but I am sad he will not grow up in the America I did.

A teenage boy who respected his girlfriend....

I'm thinking there was more to this poor child's state of mind, then just being embarrassed over the photos going around. It seems like it's not something to kill ones self over. I suspect she already suffered from emotional issues. While this incident sent her over the edge, the ground work had already been laid. Either way its tragic. Prayers for her family.

Laura Ingraham calls it the pornification of the culture.

Yep, that is the backdrop for how this tragedy played out.
