Posted on 03/23/2009 12:49:30 PM PDT by shotdog
I'm new and I have several questions regarding procedure. Is it allowed to email excerpted articles posted here? If so, how do I do it? What is the meaning of "ping", "banglist" and "bump?" Mrs. Dog wants to know, too. Thanks.
I wait for the answers, too.
Banglist - of interest to 2nd Amendment posters.
Bump - a content-free post meant to get articles back into the Latest Comments view.
You can forward links via emails just as long as you make a donation to the Free Republic Moderator's Retirement/Beer Party fund (just kidding, we only have a beer fund).

This is HUGH! Series, even. i’m going to take a shower.
To beer, or not to beer; that is the question. Will consult the Exchequer prior to the next quarter fund drive. This is inarguably the best of the blogs. Thanks.
That is awesome.............
what does ‘bttt’ mean?
Bttt: back to the top. It’s the same thing as a “bump.”
it’s shorthand for
“if you type sequences of characters into scroogle.org, you will find their meaning with little-to-no effort”
This is inarguably the best of the blogs. Thanks.
Your submission did NOT go unnoticed.
Just friendly little word of advice: Do NOT refer to Free Republic as a blog.
Kitties do not like.
Ping is the sound when you over tighten a bolt and it breaks. Usually in a very difficult to fix situation.
Bump is the sound of strange things in the night when your’re hiding under the covers.
Banglist I’m not sure about, but I think it’s a country close to India or something.
Yes, you can e-mail from the posted articles but a fee must be paid first. Contact me with a credit card number and we’ll discuss it further.
PS, best we keep this between us. Momma doesn’t need to know.
You’re welcome. :)
You may want to ask about ‘peepole’ also.....
Will you accept Viscover?
Who said Mods dont like beer?
Ok. I’ve been a boob. Message heard and I’m properly uplifted. Love the tag.
Who said that? You didn’t hear that from this keyboard. Now, beer is good, but a single malt scotch? Now ye’r talkin’.
bump to the top
Guinness and Jameson.
Now that’s a match made in, well, Ireland..
I said in post #17 that Kitties do not like (blogs)
Your post dramatically drives home that point.
I always thought “ping” was a reference to the archaic days of DOS. When you were trying to link two computers together back in the day, you “pinged” them to see if they were receiving the signal. And this term was itself a reference to the military term used in sonar communications between subs.
So when you “ping” someone on FR, you are essentially saying “did you get that signal?”
With a large cash deposit, yes.
The Scots and the Irish are separated only by the Irish Sea. Single malt is single malt. The difference lies in the treatment of the malt. Either way, they’re the nectar of the gods. And I concede that Irish beer is three orders of magnitude better that that of Scotland. We could take a page from all the folks across the pond.
I have a small cache of Confederate currency. Will that suffice?
First of all, I think they want you to post vanity questions in the Breaking News sidebar.
You betcha! At least there are people who want it and its held its value better than the Union paper.
Yes or they can send to the fund raiser Beer Mod:)
Um. Yeah. Geithner might take umbrage, though. Seriously, I can’t believe how fast our country is tanking. Obama is taking the country over the cliff, and the front wheels are already treading air.
I’d like to know, though, how the Scots could come up with Single Malt but also Haggis.
Enquiring minds and all that.
Thanks. And I apologize for accusing FR of being a blog. My bad.

Oh. And a “knockle” is when the bolt breaks, and you fail to attenuate quickly muscle force, resulting in the departure of 1/2 square inch of dermal surface sited over the mid-carpal falange. Result: owee.
See #42 for all of the answers you could ever need about FR
Hm, I had banglist pegged totally wrong.
Um. Not guilty. And I will refrain from dumping on impossibly difficult-to-play Irish music. Not to mention that (fetching) stick up your butt dance...
Well, to be fair, America has Square Dancing and Scandinavia has Polka’s. So, can’t claim the Irish have cornered the market when it comes to ridiculous dances.
