100 Movies to see before you die.
Yahoo Movies ^ | 03/22/2009 | Yahoo! Movies Editorial Staff

Posted on 03/24/2009 1:12:46 AM PDT by iowamark

Many movies are good, some are great, but only a select few can be called truly "essential." After heated discussions, long negotiations, and a shouting match or two, the staff at Yahoo! Movies has put together this list of the 100 films you must see before you die.

To choose the titles for the list, we considered factors like historical importance and cultural impact. But we also selected films that we believe are the most thrilling, most dramatic, scariest, and funniest movies of all time. Some of these films you've seen, and some you may not have heard of, but we believe that each one is a timeless classic that you absolutely have to see.

12 Angry Men (1957) Directed By: Sidney Lumet Starring: Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, E. G. Marshall

Well by my reckoning Ive seen 53 of those (and enjoyed about 40). These lists are always subjective - Im surprised “HArd days night” is on (its a good film, but not a great one) and Im surprised “Gone with the Wind” isnt.

I’ve seen 51 of those, and not all of them were good (Pulp Fiction and Bonnie and Clyde are two of the worst movies I’ve ever seen).

That list isn’t really for my crowd anyway, only a tiny handful of foreign or silent films were on there. The Sight and Sound list is more my thing.

A relative of mine died a bitter, angry and broken man who left this life thinking himself a depraved and worthless failure because he never saw The Battle of Algiers (1967). His last rasping words, as his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were gathered around his death bed were, “Damn you Blockbuster...”

HOWEVER,

PLEASE BE AWARE . . .

VIRTUALLY ALL THE SCIENCE FICTION FLICKS OF THE LAST 60 YEARS

HAVE A FAIRLY HEAVY PROPAGANDA LOAD CARRYING WATER FOR THE GLOBALIST OLIGARCHY AND THEIR CONSTRUCTIONS ON REALITY THAT THEY EXPECT ALL CITIZENS OF THE PLANET TO SUBSCRIBE TO.

THIS IS TRUE OF ALL MY FAVORITES OF THE GENRE.

Even THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL does the same thing.

Some, if not most, of such films had seed money and/or script input from the oligarchy to begin with.

They can be great entertainment and enjoyable by one and all. However, that makes the propaganda go down all the slicker and reside in the brain all the more unshakably. I say that as a psychologist and a sociologist. Add in the group think aspect and it’s a grand achievement of the oligarchy.

To be sure for modern tastes it is too long, too slow and overly melodramatic. But it is a landmark film, which is one of the criteria they are using.

Check out why NASA

wrote Spielberg a 20 page letter . . . angry about his script for . . . I think it was ET.

There are lots of other reports of the PTB dinking around with and essentially using HOLLYWEED to further their globalist agenda.

You can also learn some interesting thins at the post linked in my tagline.

Beyond that . . . I don’t care to bother being folks’ research assistant when they can and should do it themselves. It’s part of what I’ve studied for 45 years.

Although it appear light and entertaining, Princess Bride is an almost perfectly-told tale and, IMO, deserves to be in any list at least 50 movies long.

Too early to be included, but the most recent almost perfectly-told tale is Benjamin Button. It is virtually seamless.

How did they miss “Plan 9 From Outer Space?” I'm sure we could add hundreds to this list. For those interested, keep an eye on this site as I'm sure they're going to get an earful about certain films not included on the list and make a new one in response.

1970s: “The Godfather,” “The Heartbreak Kid,” “Paper Moon,” “The Friends of Eddie Coyle,” “The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz,” “Rocky,” “The Goodbye Girl,” “House Calls,” “Time After Time” and “Breaking Away”

1980s: “Atlantic City,” “Diner,” “Ordinary People,” “A Christmas Story,” “Terms of Endearment,” “The Natural,” “Broadway Danny Rose,” “Midnight Run,” “Die Hard,” “Field of Dreams,” “The Tall Guy,” “Witness,” “Murphy’s Romance,” “Lost in America,” “Hannah and Her Sisters,” “Hoosiers,” “The Princess Bride,” “Tin Men,” “Roxanne” and “The Untouchables”

They left out High Noon?

Some great Errol Flynn movies like The Adventures of Robin Hood, Sea Hawk, and Dodge City.

Yes... a lot of the older films aren't even in the running here.

A few good Jimmy Stewart movies were left out as well:

Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, and Harvey.

I'll take these any day over insipid movies like Fast Times at Ridgemont High. IMHO.

ET - Good Lord. I had forgotten how absolutely alien and cheated I felt in that movie.

I am Mr. SF, the UberNerd. Seriously. And when I saw ET all I could think of was "He might as well have been a cuddly little puppy. This movie is written entirely to manipulate my emotions. Here it comes...threee, two, one...ADORABLE MOMENT. Followed by INSERT EMPATHIZE WITH ET HERE." It was like a bad carnival hot dog that everyone else was chomping down like it was a Nathan's...but you knew, in your heart, it was made with floor sweepings and flavored with chemicals calculated to make you go "ooooh, he's SOOOOOOOOO CUTE!"
