Sony confirmed in the early hours Tuesday that it will be dropping its price by $30 for the Playstation 2 to $99.99. The price drop was previously leaked by an insider at retailer Kmart, who spotted a price change in his system and tipped off gaming blog Joystiq about the news. Playstation 2

I actually had one of those Odyssey systems. I even had the pump shotgun light gun that worked with it.
I had one too.
They sold for 76.00 dollars which is about 345.00 in todays dollars.
Why do they still sell the PS2? I’ve heard the PS3 no longer has backward compatibility — is that the reason for the continued PS2?
It’s cheap now (PS2) and has many outstanding games still produced for the console.
I agree — I’m tempted to get the new baseball game, but only because I already have a PS2. I’m not sure I would buy one right now if I did not already have one.
If you were dirt poor and didn’t have one, now might be a good time to purchase.
I have had mine since 2002? I think. I also picked up a PSP. But, have not gotten into the PS3.
