It was very hard.
She laid her little head in my hand until the bitter end.
The same with my Sparky.
Your cat knows that it was very much loved.
I share your pain, having put two beloved furgirls into the ground within the last year. But the day comes, always, when we have to make that tough choice.
One online vet wrote that pets never seem to die when they need to, leaving the decision to us.
I believe God takes pets into heaven to wait for us.
I’m so sorry. But if you can’t relieve the suffering of a pet, it’s the best thing to do. I have a bird and some days he’s the thing that makes me smile the hardest.
Here’s “Rainbow Bridge” for you.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

We put our cat and then our old Border Collie down. I lost it right there at the vet’s. So sad. And so necessary. It is the right thing, you don’t want them to suffer.
I had to do the same thing a few weeks ago. The vet said that was the last act of kindness I could show my beloved cat.
They trust us to relieve their pain and in the end, sometimes this is how it has to be. You did the right thing not to let her suffer.
Condolences on your loss.
Being pro-life, I assume you have a relationship with God. Your precious friend is purring in the lap of the Savior. She waits for you there, I assure you.
Ask the Lord to give her a kiss for you. He will. As happy as she is now, she knows you miss her.
If you were with her, you eased her fears toward the end. I’ve done that for mine before. Actually, I felt like I waited too long on one of them
Thank you so much for making that hard and unpleasant, but most humane choice.
Had to put my 15-year old calico down a few years ago, (her little head in my hand as she looked into my eyes) and I wept like a baby (I work with combat aircraft and play hard-contact sports - so I'm not exactly a softie).
