The more the Arctic ice melts the better. It’s going to open up the northwest passage and open vast undersea oil fields for us to drill. The U.S. should be claiming that area already. Oil or polar bears - which is more important for HUMANS?

I thought it odd, too, that 30 years of data could tell them sooooo much about earth’s historical and future climate.

So there’s more new ice than before. They really thad to spin, turn, twist and shout to make that into bad news.

Interesting how every bit of news is taken as evidence of “Global Warming”.

NG has gone hard left lately, I would like to see the data for myself, not just what they published, all the data.

“And I remember when the National Geographic knew the difference between “hearty” and “hardy.”

GOOD CATCH! THAT’S FUNNY! I guess that’s a good example of how how our educational system has improved with all the extra money.

Thanks for catch.

Just a wild-backsided guess, but ice doesn't accumulate without end, right? I'm not standing on a sheet of ice so I'll have to assume the answer to that is "no it does not."

That must mean ice comes and goes. Now, I'll further postulate that there is some ice that comes and goes every season, and some that lasts longer. I'll just bet that this natural cycle is like every other natural cycle - consistently inconsistent. In other words, it varies. From that I would conclude that some ice comes and goes every year, some on average sticks around several years. Maybe, there are even (gasp) deep cycles where significant amounts melt, and other years where ice formation is above average...

So this all sounds like a lot of sensationalism, stating the situation in terms to support a certain political agenda...

Yes. What you're not understanding is that H2O molecules unthaw at lower temperatures the longer they remain in a solid ("frozen") state.

Keeping all other variables (pressure, dissolved mineral content) constant, water is always going to freeze and melt at the same temperature.

Pure water at "standard" pressure will always freeze and melt at 0 degrees celsius.

Here is the current snow depth chart for the US.

Here is the snow depth on this same date last year which was a heavy snow year.

Here is a snow depth chart for this date in 2007 which was a low snow fall year.

Anyone see a three year trend there ?

It was an unmarked joke. You got it, which also explains the “ex” dem part. PV=nRT

Have a great day. Even though it’s unseasonably cold.

I wonder how many global warming fanatics realize that the great lakes were formed a globally short 6,000 (no cars) years ago when massive glaciers melted that covered over 50% of the United States. If it wasn’t for global warming the liberal east coast would not exist and be buried under a mile of ice.

None of these global warming clowns realize how fast and how much the world’s temperature changes without the help of man.

Its related to sun cycles. I forget which study provided a correlation but there have been several published recently.
