A dissident faction of gay conservatives is launching a rival group to the traditional voice of gay Republicans: the Log Cabin Republicans.
GOPROUD, the new 527 group, will launch next week, according to a media advisory. The contact given for the group is Christopher Barron, a former Log Cabin political director who broke with the group.
"Essentially, there's no voice for gay Republicans or gay conservatives in particular in D.C. right now. Log Cabin has been completely and totally absent here in D.C. for months and months," Barron said. "It has simply moved way too far to the left and is basically indistinguishable from any other gay left organization."
The ideological battle has been playing out in the gay media and on some blogs for a while, spurred in part by the Blade's revelation that the Log Cabin Republicans' biggest backer is a prominent Democrat, Tim Gill. Their complaint, in general, is that Log Cabin has grown indistinguishable from left-leaning gay rights groups.
The blog GayPatriot has been making the case for a split and arguing that gay rights groups should make the case for same-sex marriage to a broader political spectrum.

I’ve been wondering about this for a while.
A large percentage of homosexuals want to live steady, quiet lives, away from the Moonbats and other fruitcakes. In other words, to live as normal lives as possible, without being made an issue, or annoying their community. This means they are “conservative” in its truest sense. To be left alone.
However, while they know that much of the public does not particularly approve of homosexuality, they also know that the “live and let live” attitude dominates, outside of those that enjoy pestering people. So if they keep to themselves, they will be left in peace.
But while some religious people pester, they are nothing compared to the vast numbers of leftists more than willing to torment them, expose and humiliate them, embarrass and exploit them, and otherwise make their lives a burden and a misery. All in the name of “the cause”. Which is the leftist’s cause, not theirs.
This means that the homosexuals want to embrace conservative politics, not necessarily because they like the parts other than “leave us alone”, but because conservatives oppose, at least for the most part, those who refuse to leave conservatives of any kind alone.
The irony here is that the Log Cabin Republicans who have swerved to the left, and perhaps embraced the RINOs, will get nothing out of that deal any more than any other conservative who threw their hat in the ring with those spoilers.
So the end result is hopefully this conservative faction of homosexuals will make it clear that they are conservative, and maybe split the homosexual vote, bringing those homosexuals who just want to be left alone to at least vote Republican, before they go back to being quiet.
I'm certainly no expert on the "gay community". But, after spending a career in the military, I've owned my own business for almost 10 years. One of my clients is a company owned by two gay guys. Aside from the gay marriage issue, they're just as conservative as me. Both are pro-life, low taxes, less regulation and strong defense and have BIG problems with illegals. One voted Barry the other McCain. The one who voted Barry, did so only because of gay marriage.
I think once you get outside of Manhattan and Hollywood, there's probably a good percentage of gays that would vote Republican, save for the gay marriage problem. I'm not saying the GOP should change it's position on gay marriage - it shouldn't. But, this gay marriage thing is eventually going to happen, the demographics just don't favor us. It will be interesting what happens then.

The Log Cabin Club has played a vital role in reinvigorating the Republican Party in Massachusetts and your endorsement is important to me because it will provide further confirmation that my campaign and approach to government is consistent with the values and vision of government we share.
I am pleased to have had an opportunity to talk with you and to meet many of you personally during your September meeting. I learned a great deal from those discussions and the many thoughtful questions you posed. We have discussed a number of important issues such as the Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which I have agreed to co-sponsor, and if possible broaden to include housing and credit, and the bill to create a federal panel to find ways to reduce gay and lesbian youth suicide, which I also support. One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clinton’s “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue” military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.
As we begin the final phase of this campaign, I need your support more than ever. By working together, we will achieve the goals we share for Massachusetts and our Nation.

All joking aside? I’m glad a (more) conservative gay-GOP group has formed, after the Log Cabin ‘Pubs defected to Obama in ‘08. I actually know several gaypublicans, and they all stayed GOP in ‘08 — but one told me that it was a close call and that he voted “against Obama.”

Good to hear. There are many of us gays that are pro-life, opposed to the bailout, etc. The Log Cabiners decided to make a deal with the devil and teamed up with pro-abortion and environmentalist republican groups to try and move the party left. . IOW, they became an organization for RINOs. Their numbers have been down lately and yet, just like many RINOs, they have decided that they should go even more to the left. A group for gay conservatives is long overdue.
