TODAY AROUND THE HAMMOCK
SELF | April 16, 2009 | swampsniper

The big flower and garden show is this weekend, I took a sneak preview, it's looking super. The young Little Blue Heron is still hanging out at the little pond, you can see some blue/gray feathers starting to show. I got more, too tired to mess with it now.

Beautiful photos and a sight for my winter weary eyes. It’s snowing here again with 10-20 inches forecast, Swampsniper.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks. I keep telling myself that the flowers here will be blooming in another few weeks.

These are from the Sony A-200, I'm gonna figure the damn thing out yet! It speaks a different language than the Panasonic, LOL! I can see the difference when I use it right, much less noise in the images. It is a lot less forgiving when you set it wrong, it is more sensitive.

I am using 3 different cameras, all with buttons in different places and different menu formats. The only way to keep things straight is lots of practice.

So keep practicing. These are such lovely images. Totally makes my day. Okay let me rephrase that a bit. Take care of yourself, then practice.

Thanks for the reminders that Spring has arrived in some places. The color in the flowers is just beautiful.

All this time I thought those juvenile blue herons were egrets with pond scum on their backs!

Thanks. These are beauties!

Keep in mind that there are 2 distinct "Blue Herons".

Great Blue Heron, Ardea herodias

Little Blue Heron, Egretta caerulea

That’s it. I’m going to the library. I should know my native birds like the back of my hand.

The great blue heron is plentiful around the coast where I’m from. Here the little herons are plentiful especially around the ponds here. Guess I’ve been seeing little blue herons all along. Lots of red hawks and eagles too.

Glad you’re back Swampsniper!
