Word For The Day, Monday, 4/20/09
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
A little man with an unduly high opinion of himself. Boastful talk; braggadocio
Etymology: [Perhaps alteration (influenced by Latin -ōrum, genitive pl. ending) of obsolete Flemish kockeloeren, to crow, of imitative origin.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
Hobnobbing with this cockalorum- not good.
Review Thread One: Word For The Day, Thursday 11/14/02: Raffish (Be SURE to check out posts #92 and #111 on this thread!)
Review Thread Two: Word For The Day, Tuesday 1/14/03: Roister
Review Thread Three: Word For The Day, Tuesday 1/28/03: Obdurate
No pushing at the door please!
all i can say it, yunz better BEHAVE TODAY!! this word will test the maturity level of our students.... : )
You really don’t get that I’m mocking the Flyers because orange is the color of empty seats? Yes, all kinds of other teams in all kinds of sports have their fans wear one color to look imposing. But not in orange.
LOL. Nothing like a NON challenging word to use on THIS forum..... Love it
tis follie to believe
a radical Muslim
none the less trust our
newly elected cockalorum
i get it, i just don’t think it’s a valid mock, because like i said, what color should they wear, GREEN just to show up?
This reminds me of a song.
“For he’s got no falorum, hi-diddle, hi-orum
He’s got no falorum, hi-diddle, hi-ay!
He’s got no falorum, he’s lost his ding-dorum,
Maids, when you’re young never wed an old man!”
You’re not into the spirit of mocking, are you?
i was apprehensive about using it on a MONDAY, since it’s more like a FRIDAY word, but hey, it’s raining here and there is so much fodder on FR that could call this word into play. : )
i am into LEGIT mocking, not lame mocking. i am sorry, it just doesn’t resonate with me, but maybe it does with others!
i am quite sure that song is on a WEE SING tape!
and, oh by the way, you certainly didn’t get the LEGIT mocking of the crybaby, so chalk it up to our biases i guess.
“WEE SING Bawdy Songs”? I don’t think we had that one ;-).
“Cockalorum” is on the “wee sing”?
I really do try to behave, but I have my cockalorum set for 11 p.m., and when it goes off...
Hmmm, I think I’ll give my GF a little cock-ala-rum Friday when we head to the City and stay at that swanky hotel. Hmmmm.
well i hate to agree with any MORAN of any stripe, but McAuliffe is a blatant carpetbagger, so his point about donations from VA contractors versus Trump, sounds right to me. By the way, i actually saw the first McAuliffe bumpersticker last week on a car in Crystal City. A+++
A+++ welcome to class, i figured this rather....colorful word would tickle peoples fancies today!
