Now here's an amusing scam from the various thieves on the interwebby. I got an email from the "Presidential Editorial Department" that said they've reviewed and accepted my distinguished record and I'm to be included in their registry.

"Presidential Who's Who, each year, recognizes and selects key executives, professionals and organizations in all disciplines and industries for outstanding business and professional achievements."

Oh, really? Of course, the link goes to a site other than the one it claims to be. These guys are so cheap, they wouldn't even buy the domain name for their own rip off. But the email insisted that it wouldn't cost me a dime to be included in the the registry, so I was wondering exactly how they planned to steal from me. When the theives try to get you to visit a trojan horse site, the emails are usually so bad that they're actually funny. This one was reasonable, if pompous.

So I searched the name and found this: "I also got a call today from a stephen peters from who's who that tried to sell me book, a plaque with my name on it and a certificate for the ONE LOW PRICE of $894.45 but when i declined he lowered the price to a ONE LOW PRICE of 684.75 and when I declined again, he said that he could give me the book & plaque for the one low price of $424.85 and when i declined again he said he got the thumbs UP from his supervisor to give me the Publication for the ONE LOW PRICE(TODAY ONLY) for $150.00. DO these scammers think that im gonna just yank out my credit card and thank them for scamming me...Get a real job you idiots...."

So that's it - someone brought brought this old gag out of retirement. According to that website, they send out loads of unsolicited faxes, too. There's a phone number at the site if you want to call them up and see how much of their time you can waste. Have fun. :)

Ach, I've been getting that crap for years. With all the fax toner and paper they're wasting, we should be able to figure out some way of sikking the greenies on 'em. Anything to get the bastards outta' my hair...
