Gov. Deval Patrick’s free wheels for welfare recipients program is revving up despite the stalled economy, as the keys to donated cars loaded with state-funded insurance, repairs and even AAA membership are handed out to get them to work.

But the program - fueled by a funding boost despite the state’s fiscal crash - allows those who end up back on welfare to keep the cars anyway.

I really feel sorry for this Katrina victims. However, how can the victims (most of them welfare recipients) claim they lost a lot of things that they didn’t have before Katrina happened. I remembered a black guy was interviewed on the street right after Katrina. He cried and said that he lost his son or nephew — they drowned. As a result, there were a lot of sympathy contributions - thousands and thousands of dollars. It turned out he was a fraud.

Wasn’t that the intent of The People’s Car, Volkswagen? Everyone would have a car, an economical sensible car, the same car.

Not only a free car, but you can be the next president.

The program distributes cars donated by non-profit charities such as Good News Garage, a Lutheran charity, which also does the repair work on the car and bills the state.

Bills the taxpayers. There. Fixed that one, too.

If these are vehicles that have been donated, they are probably hunks of junk for the most part.

I work for a church and we get a few vehicles every year donated to us and, for the most part, they are junkers. Though not all.

We give them away to needy families but we don't pay for the insurance, etc.

Nor do we bill the taxpayers for repairs.

Only if you promise to steal someone’s identity, get a driver’s license and register to vote for the Rats.

From the Rats viewpoint, the vote is most important.

The recipients probably complain about the cars they are given — it's in the nature of societal parasites to always demand more.

My $500.00 vehicle, that I bought four years ago, is on its last legs.

I am actively seeking a replacement, and have saved/secured the ability to pay $1500.00 cash for basic transportation.
Nothing fancy, but I would like A/C and a working radio.

Who dreams up these entitlement programs?
I have just reached the point that I can afford health insurance again, but not a car mortgage.

I am really curious about the thought processes of these people.
