PALMDALE - More than 175 people attended the Palmdale Mayor's Prayer Breakfast at the Cascades Grill at Rancho Vista Golf Course.
The breakfast's host was The King's Table, a weekly prayer and fellowship group, which has put on Palmdale's National Day of Prayer observance for four years.
Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford offered a welcome to the audience, saying the event was a great way to start the day.
"We are blessed, there's no doubt about it. It's great to come together to focus on our community in prayer," Ledford said.
Recognizing several members of the audience who have made enormous contributions in the past, Ledford urged everyone to follow their lead and keep Palmdale in their prayers.
"We're going to need prayers - let's kick it up a notch," he said. "We're going to make it - yes, we're going to make it. This breakfast is inspirational. I feel like (I'm) turbo-charged."
Government leaders at the Palmdale breakfast, besides Ledford, included Palmdale Mayor Pro Tem Steve Hofbauer, Councilman Mike Dispenza, Palmdale School District board member Sandy Corrales-Eneix, Westside Union School District board member Linda Jones, Palmdale Water District general manager Randy Hill, assistant general manager Curtis Paxton, Director Dick Wells and board president Jeff Storm.
Coleman introduced the key speaker, Pastor Bill Phillips from Calvary Chapel Palmdale, which opened its doors 18 months ago.
Phillips spoke on the theme of the day, which was "Prayer America's Hope," and how sometimes when people pray they are unsure about how to pray, what to pray and when to pray.
"We need to spend time in prayer every day. When things get bad, that's when we pray," Phillips said. "But we should be praying continually, so when the hard times come, we're ready."

What’s an AV?
Not again! I just asked a poster a few up from this one what “AM” meant!
Now I don’t know what “AV” means either. If it’s some new FR code, I guess I skipped class that day!
