A U.S. soldier serving in Afghanistan has become a media sensation after he was photographed fighting Taliban forces while stripped down to his skivvies.
Army Spc. Zachary Boyd, 19, who hails from Fort Worth, Texas, said he was in his sleeping quarters at Firebase Restrepo in the Korengal Valley of Afghanistan's Kunar province when the Taliban attacked, forcing him to take up a defensive position while clad only in his helmet, protective vest, a T-shirt and his pink "I Love NY" boxer shorts, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Thursday.

Kinda negates the need for camos. I bet those flip-flops are great for negotiating that Afghan terrain.
His mom was on Fox saying the area where they are fighting was implicated in 9/11. I think that’s perfect, she should send enough to make that the uniform of the day. I think it is great! But... let’s not make it a habit.

Most of the spent casings are probably going slightly forward of the position.

He’s at a firebase in the mountains and was probably racked out when the action started. When fire is coming in on you you don’t have the luxury of time to pull on your pants and blouse; you grab your body armor, weapon and put bullets on the bad guys. That is what will keep you and your buddies alive. Every weapon in the squad is important and essential to the effort and I’m sure his buddies might give him crap for some time to come but I’m also sure that they are glad he was out there asap doing his job.
