Dolphins seen trying to kill calf
bbc ^ | May 2009 | Matt Walker

Adult tucuxi dolphins have been seen trying to kill a newborn calf of their own species. It is the first record of these dolphins attempting infanticide. Although common in many mammal species, infanticide is rarely recorded among cetaceans, the group of animals that includes whales and dolphins. Until now, the behaviour has only been reported twice in bottlenose dolphins; but the new episode suggests it may be more widespread than was thought. Tucuxi dolphins (Sotalia guianensis) live either in the freshwater of the Amazonian basin, or in the ocean off the coast of Brazil to Nicaragua.

Earlier today an Orangutan ate it’s own children.

The world is getting strange.

Maybe they can detect a young dolphin that has defects, and may burden or adversely affect the group, and they take effective action. Real stuff in nature is often brutal, but somehow logical.

According to the article, it appears these were male dolphins who had other reasons for separating the mother from the calf and preventing the mother from protecting it. Nature is brutal, indeed. :-(

Folks tend to enoble various species and certain human groups. This mythology supports agendas, usually leftist agendas. At some point the truth will out. Say hello to a bit of truth.

That may be true, as dogs and cats will also either eat or not feed a weak offspring, leaving it in a corner so it won’t even have any warmth; also, a new mother can be scared by a little one and have a bad reaction, not to mention that some mothers are simply bad mothers.

I’ll confess. I thought how in the world would a dolphin get near a baby cow, much less try to kill it. Clicked the link, said “Never Mind” in my best Emily Latella voice.
