Congratulations to Logan. It is an honor well deserved.
Scouting is such a great organization dedicated to developing leaders in a world of followers. From the time they are Tiger Cubs, they learn in small bits how to step out. Ive got two boys, one First Class, one Webelo II.
When my oldest was a Tiger, we went to our first popcorn sale in front of a store. At the time, he was very shy and afraid to speak to anyone, sometimes even family members. When we got there, a Webelo scout (now Eagle) literally put his arm around my son and said, Lets learn how to sell popcorn. Within ten minutes, he was approaching a burly biker guy in leathers trying to make the sale.
Fast forward a few years to a troop meeting last month. He was asked one hour before the meeting to substitute for one of the scouts and give a presentation on backpacking skills and gear. Within 30 minutes, he had an outline in his head and a bunch of gear packed to give a 30 minute speech. From there, he went directly into a Board of Review for First Class rank.
That is the confidence and leadership brought on by scouting. Hopefully in two years or so, Ill have the same opportunity you have by announcing the my FReeper friends that my son has earned his Eagle as well. Then again a few years later.
