Dave Marba didn’t get into powerlifting to become one of the world’s strongest men. But after bench-pressing 501.2 pounds last weekend in Saturday, that’s exactly what he’s become.

Marba’s lift at the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters meet at the Mariott in Rancho Cordova set a new world record in the Men’s Masters 61-67 year-old age group in the 220-pound weight class.

“I’m just getting better and getting stronger,” the 62-year-old Marba said by phone earlier this week. “I’ve hooked up with a body builder friend who know a lot about nutrition, so who knows how high I can take it.”

Yeah, they cheat though. It’s all a crock nowdays. They wear special shirts that hold your arms and shoulders rolled forward and when the bar comes down, the elasticity of the shirt material augments pectoral muscle strength.

Also steroids is rampant. I’m sure narcotics are as well.

For a real honest all natural bench press, i’d estimate that the last one of those to break any records was in the seventies or maybe even before then.

pump iron all day....no doping much if any

600 to 700 or so is max in the joint for bench press
