Discussion Topic: Cedar Rapids Bans BB- And Air-Gun Carry

From The Gazette:

At the urging of police, the [Cedar Rapids] City Council has made it a misdemeanor offense to carry a loaded BB gun, air gun or pellet gun in the city limits. Juveniles cannot have the guns at all, loaded or unloaded, unless they are under adult supervision.

Police Capt. Bernie Walther said people have used the toy guns in hopes the victims will think they are real. It is easy for anyone, including a police officer, to mistake them for the real thing, he said.

"It makes no sense for anybody to be carrying one of things out in public, unless you're going to the range to do some shooting," Walther said. "That's all there is to it."

Is that all there is to it? What’s your reaction?

Do as I say, not as I do.

LASD didn’t want air weapons this year during their so called gun “buy-back”.

Maybe next time.

“Iowa Code section 724.28 sets forth the following express limitation upon regulation of firearms by political subdivisions.
A political subdivision of the state shall not enact an ordinance regulating the ownership, possession, legal transfer, lawful transportation, registration, or licensing of firearms when the ownership, possession, transfer or transportation is otherwise lawful under the laws of this state. An ordinance regulating firearms in violation of this section existing on or after April 5, 1990, is void.”

Obviously that code does not apply to the individual, or so some judge will rule.

This is one of those "pick and choose" laws. I in pick and choose to ignore altogether for foolishness.

I’m wondering ... when they say FIREarms ... does the law mean FIRE ... would it apply to “air”?
