Invokes the lyrics of Tom Lehrer:
Do you remember the night I held you so tight,
As we danced to the Wiener Schnitzel Waltz?
...
It was I who stepped on your dress.
The skirts all came off, I confess.
Revealing for all of the others to see
Just what it was that endeared you to me.

What’s holding it up? Scotch tape?

That picture of Madonna is from 1984 when she made the “Like A Virgin” video and also performed at the MTV Awards.

I still see beautiful wedding dresses, even strapless ones, at the weddings I attend or when I watch shows like Say Yes to the Dress, etc.

If I was the mother-in-law, I would not have stayed at the wedding. I would probably never speak to my son again.

My daughter-in-law’s brother got married naked. When she first said this I just could not process it and only years later realized she meant it. I don’t know what I thought she meant but to me it was so bizarre that my mind just did something like translate “naked” into meaning something else I guess. When I found out this sister in law had the hobby of showing up at other people’s weddings naked it finally sunk into my thick skull that the brother and sil truly did get married in the nude. It is hard to not feel sort of like we have lost it.

Boy, have you summed this up beautifully. Much better than any pundit I have heard on the subject. I believe my generation (baby boomers) have done pretty much everything they could to destroy the sanctity of marriage with the "anything goes" aspect that they used on everything else in life. Also, the attitude that one can take thinking that if it doesn't work out, just get divorced. Just another option, no tragedy.

Thank you for the compliment -- I'm honored. This is something my wife and I have been thinking about very deeply, and as a psychologist and a Christian, something that is very much at the forefront of my mind on a daily basis.

I'm a Gen Xer, and I am seeing among some of my peers a reaction against the Boomers -- a movement back to a more traditional lifestyle. My wife and I have a very traditional marriage, and we are extremely happy and fulfilled. When I see friends and colleagues attempting to have the "modern" version of a marriage, I see them failing left and right -- and very, very unhappy and resentful.

It's difficult to work against the tide, as schools, universities, and the media are working against us -- very obviously and purposefully working to undermine the traditional family structure -- and, sadly and apparently, having much success at it. Sometimes my wife and I feel like salmon swimming against the stream, but the struggle only makes us stronger.

God bless.

“is she sporting a c-section or is that hair on her gut?”

That is skin discoloration that is naturally occuring during pregnancy. It will go away in time after she delivers. Very common occurance.

I’ve never attended a wedding where the bride wore a trashy dress. Although, there were some dresses that weren’t my taste of course.

My reception cost $10,000 back in 1989, and it was considered inexpensive back then for this area.

My girls were talking about their weddings, as girls tend to do, and one wants to get married in our backyard so she doesn’t have to “dress up.” I said no way, Church wedding, but ok about the reception/party being held in our backyard, lol.

My parents were married in the Catholic Church in 1954. My mom’s dress was strapless w/a lace bolero that she wore over it. She never removed it for the reception. As Mom was a self-described “tomboy”, I laughed over all the lace and fanciness of the dress. She did look beautiful though. BTW, I wasn’t there. I just have all the old wedding pictures. LOL!

Some of the pics you'll find are of bridal lingerie, not for the ceremony.

But yeah. Some trampy brides are officially stamped.

I HATE, repeat HATE the strapless wedding gown. I hope the woman I end up marrying has enough sense to not wear one.
