Bronx Teen Confesses to Roasting Kitten
NY Daily News ^ | June 5, 2009 | BY Lisa L. Colangelo, Erica Pearson and Bill Hutchinson DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

Cheyenne Cherry tossed her ex-roommate's kitty, Tiger Lily (below), into the stove, then left so she didn't have to hear the cat's anguished cries.

A Bronx teenager roasted her ex-roommate's kitten to death in a stove - then brushed off the incident as a joke when she was busted, authorities said Thursday.

"I hate cats," Cheyenne Cherry, 17, allegedly told investigators when asked about the heartless crime.

Cherry's confession came after she was arrested Wednesday by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

She and an unidentified juvenile allegedly broke into Valerie Hernandez's Tinton Ave. apartment on May 6 and trashed the place.

This woman should get serious jail time.

Inhumane.

A kitten no less.

There’s a line in the story about the ASPCA arresting the woman. I’m glad she’s arrested, but I didn’t know the ASPCA has arrest powers.

Did you look at the photo?

I’m still struggling to wrap my brain around what she did. Jailt time is way too little. My impulse is to seek her out and put a blowtorch to her or horsewhip her until she is nothing but a gelatinous mass of raw, quivering ganglia.

Some states delegate out animal control/cruelty enforcement to them.

I am curious. Would you feel the same way if she was some gangbanger that beat another girl to death?

This idiot girl hates cats, so that justifies what she did? Throw the book at her. And several other objects.

The ASPCA has had this authority in many states, well over half, I believe, for over a hundred years. I think most states chartered them in and gave them enforcement authority through their respective agricultural departments.

I think they may be a different organization from the SPCA, not sure.

I don't know about the original poster, but I certainly would. There was a day and age when we wouldn't put up with such aberrant behavior. Punishment is way too soft these days.

"I hate cats," Cheyenne Cherry, 17, allegedly told investigators

Well, I really hate you.

Every single case I know of where someone does these things to an animal, they always go on to becoming a dangerous waste of oxygen. She'll do it to her kid someday.

I hope someone gives her a necklace, and hope to someday read about it in the news. Soon.

If they were evenly matched, less so.

The outrage is compounded by the defenselessness of the victim. The outrage would be even greater for a human baby victim, of course.

The concept of helpless innocence as a subject of brutal sadism would be universally deplored by any worthwhile person.

Thank you. Now here's the monster: She stated she doesn't like cats. Apparently she thinks that gives her the right to put a helpless little animal in an oven and fire up the heat. The horror of the fear and pain that poor little creature suffered at her diabolical hands is just beyond the pale. I think of it trying to put its feet down on the burning hot racks, looking for a cooler place, screaming and screaming and screaming. God help us. I'll wager this monster will either be dead or serving a life sentence by the time she's 20. I can hope, anyway.

I found this on the internet...

Petition to have Cheyenne Cherry tried as Adult

Please sign this petition to encourage having Cheyenne Cherry Tried as an Adult on July 15, 2009.

Her web page is a reflection of a person who wants to be a gangsta. She has been accused of assault, theft and breaking and entering into the young woman's apartment to vandalize it and toss bleach on the walls. As if that wasn't enough to satisfy her petty meannes she put a 2 month old defenseless kitten into an oven and left it to suffer an agonizing death.

She is a junior career criminal and is a menace to anyone she meets. These signatures will go to Judge Byrne at the Bronx Supreme Court where I'm told the NY Daily News is also sending letters written to them.

Please, make a statement to our courts that this is a horrible crime and should be given a maximum sentence and tried as an adult.

She claims to like watching Law & Order and probably thinks that since she's 17 she will get away with a slap on the wrist. She needs to know the difference between TV and real life.

Please sign so that we can get this to the Judge by end of June 2009.

Many thanks

It would depend on whether or not the deceased brought it on her self through her own actions. That often happens in the gangsta “community”. If the deceased was a completely innocent girl minding her own business and didn’t know the ‘bangers, then yes I would feel the same way, especially if several ganged up on one - not a fair fight. But a tiny, helpless kitten with no way to know what was about to happen to it, no way to defend itself, it’s just beyond sickening to me.

It makes me lose my mind when children, the elderly, handicapped people and defenseless animals, or any living creature that is defenseless or outnumbered are abused, especially for someone’s sick amusement.

There is a very strong correlation between cruelty to animals and cruelty to humans. In this case, like you said, she’ll probably do it to her own children.

She might as well be put down like a rabid animal. There’s no place for somebody like this in society.

I'd post the pictures but I can't seem to do it on this forum - got frustrated and gave up

Here is the formula for posting images in html...

Photobucket

You have to replace what's between the quotes in the example with the 'location url' for the image you want to post.

To get a location url, just right click on an image you'd like to post and select from the pop-up menu 'Properties'. Then, highlight, copy and paste the location url into the above formula. You can also right click on it and save it to your computer (in case the image is one-day removed from the original source). However, if you want to post it somewhere, you'd have to first upload it to a site like photobucket.com.

since when do these guys have the authority to arrest someone?

Since 9-11 every Government Agency and office has acquired armed security and they have been slowly given the powers of arrest even outside of their respective agencies.

Since most our military would not follow illegal orders and attack our citizens this is the Government's attempt to arm itself and hold the people at risk.

This is a strong indicator that she’ll eventually kill a human being. It’s well known that most serial killers, for example, start off by killing domestic animals.

I was born in the Bronx during WWII, went to college there in the early 60’s. Used to watch parades on the Grand Course, and movies at the Loews Paradise movie theater. the great Bronx Zoo and the Botanical Gardens. Saw Mantle, Martin, Berra under Stengel playing at the Stadium. it was a middle class paradise and it is Gone With the Wind!

Anyone who would harm an animal on purpose really needs to be subjected to a mental evaluation. I believe it has been proven that cruelty to animals is a precursor to more heinous crimes. If she can rationalize doing this, what else would she be capable of?

Words escape me (as it seems they often do with news stories anymore).

I cannot imagine what goes through peoples minds today. The brutality, the inhuman attitudes. I cannot imagine what these people? think.

I had lab rats as pets (they have since died). I had one who developed a nasty form of cancer. I could see she was suffering when I saw she had chewed a big hole in her side one morning. I knew the merciful thing to do would be to quickly snap her neck and bury her. I couldn’t do it, so I brought her to my hubby (who by the way is ex military AND hated the little buggers!) HE couldn’t do it either. We ended up bringing the 9 dollar rat to the vet to be euthanized for 65 dollars. We brought her home and buried her in the back yard. Again, words escape me.

Her one sentence tells us all we or a shrink need to know about her: “I don’t like cats.”

There it is. Sociopath. It’s too bad she can’t be put down now. Instead, we have to wait until she ruins a lot of other people’s lives and probably kills several innocent people.

My hope is that she will be shot or stabbed while committing a violent crime or as payback for some heinous act against another ‘banger. Hopefully this will happen BEFORE she breeds.
