I like Mark but this is the cowards way out. He should have fought till they over ruled him. If it had been me my signature would never have graced that paper the devil and all the world be damned. Since when does the President have a right force you to accept funds? What was the cost for him to stand on principle? Nothing. If they could have forced it with out him then let them do it. What is it with Republicans not knowing how to hold the line when money is involved?

What if George Washington had looked at the state of his troops, them beaten down, frost bitten, malnourished and said such a thing? We do not know what duress is unless the disapproval of a sycophant media filled with Obama worshipers is too much to withstand. We are just lucky the liberals are antigun or the GOP would've surrendered the nation long ago. This is a great disappointment.

There’s similarities with what Romney did on homosexual marriage. Romney “pretended” to fight the court’s decision but went along with it anyway. Sanford, you should have just exercised your 10th Amendment rights and refused the money, you big dummy.

IIRC, his own legislature did so, and yes, they had the right to do so. It's called "the rule of law." It stinks sometimes, but that doesn;t change it.

What if George Washington had looked at the state of his troops, them beaten down, frost bitten, malnourished and said such a thing?

Sheesh, a little melodramatic, doncha think?

Gov. Francis Pickins is hiding his face in shame. From the glory of 1861 to the cowardice 0f 2009.

Too bad, Mark. You would have been a hero. But you punked out.

I don’t understand why you think he had a choice. The SC of South Carolina is forcing him to do this. Are we now advocating that Republican governors ignore the law? That they defy judges’ rulings they don’t like?

Yes, forced by the SCSC. Unless you’re prepared to go to prison to fight it ? Are you ?

Sanford was complying with a Court Order. That might as well be a gun to the head unless he wants a nice contempt of court ruling.

He fought the good fight and lost. That happens. Now he does the best he can with what he has.

How is he "forced?" What was the "duress?"

There is either a separation of powers, or there isn't. He can sign or not sign. If he thinks that if he doesn't sign and the Legislature will override his veto, so I have to sign it, then he should make them do it.

First, you don't know what will happen when you kick the can down that road. The Legislature may end up not overriding the veto.

Second, the Legistlature then goes on the record with their vote. By claiming "duress" and signing it like its a foregone conclusion, he's just playing into the Leglisature's hand and protecting them from going on the record themselves.

Bad move.

(Forced? I didn't see no gun to his head)

The very real consequence of being booted out of office and into prison sounds like a gun to me.
