As tutors, mentors and role models, these young leaders make a difference in the lives of children, and transform schools and neighborhoods in 18 U.S. locations and Johannesburg, South Africa. Just as important, during their year of service corps members develop civic leadership skills they can use throughout a lifetime of community service.

Does anyone know what 'City Year' is and who they are connected to? I've seen the ads on the Fox Network....and they SMACK of ACORN. Even the logo looks like theirs.

Yep, definitely ACORN. Community organizing at it’s finest. Check out the Philadelphia City Year home page.

City Year is an Americorp funded nonprofit that assists in low income areas. Their pitch is to have college students spend a year in a low income area “giving back” to a community.
I have worked with the San Antonio City Year and am somewhat impressed by the kids and the leaders.
HOWEVER, it is certainly very lefty, pro-global warming and “community organization” group that is strongly pro-Obama, much more so than is healthy. Part of this political direction comes with the territory - poor, government supported activities designed to make people feel good about themselves.
Indoctrination of youth? Most of the kids who volunteered are already wild eyed lefties; in short, normal kids from wealthy Eastern families.
But the community served becomes even more dependent on government than before, if that is possible.
