A distraught caller trying to save the life of a 2-year-old Florida girl strangled by a pet python screams "The baby's dead!" in chilling 911 tapes released in the toddler's death.

Shaiunna Hare died early Wednesday morning after being attacked in her crib by the snake, which escaped from its aquarium, police said.

"The baby's dead!" a sobbing caller from the house screamed to a 911 dispatcher. "Our stupid snake got out in the middle of the night and strangled the baby."

Authorities did not identify the caller and removed the person's name from the recording.

"She got out of the cage last night and got into the baby's crib and strangled her to death," the caller says in the tape.

While I certainly agree with that slogan, it seems pretty certain that the kid was a goner before the police were called.

My husband had a python when he was a teenager. His sister wore the snake as a belt.

Baby pays the price of parents stupidity
Parents?
Karen Ashley Hare, 21, and her daughter shared the home with Hare's boyfriend, 32-year-old Charles Jason Darnell, deputies said.

I missed that too. So this qualifies as a 'mommysboyfriend'. Keyword added.

Look at all the law dogs in those photos...that’s probably a multi-agency investigation with the works. The boyfriend is in for it.

Phew! I was beginning to think I was the only one who called the youngest “the baby”. Even though he’s almost five.:)

It is inconvenient to post stories about pet dogs that do the same thing on a daily basis across the country.

Yeah, I’m scratching my head over why anyone thinks it’s odd, much less indicative of a lack of care.

Idiots. I have seen too many idiots (usually undereducated white males between 18 and 30 years old) who thought it was cool to have a 10 foot pet snake around small children. They should make possession of large snakes like this illegal and destroy every one they find. There are already thousands in the Everglades causing all kinds of problems for the animals there.

It also said that there were bite marks on the baby’s head. probably from the snake’s attempt to eat the baby. That ought to be easily verified.

But ANY time “mommy’s boyfriend” is in the picture, I suspect murder.

Parent’s....Is that better for ya?
If he’s “sharing” the home he’s equivalent to parent.

These stories seem to get posted all the time and I just can’t bear to read much past the headlines thinking of my two little kids, 1 and 3.

If he’s a live in he qualifies as parent status in my book...a baby gets killed and you’re worried about the use of the word ‘parents’...sheesh.

Not to nitpick, but constrictor snakes bite their prey (usually on the head) before they start to constrict. It helps them keep the prey in their grip until their coils are in place.

The word “parent” means more than shacking up with a chick who just happens to have kids. For all I know this guy was a stand up dude who committed one negligent act, but the usual 32 year old male shacking up with a 23 year old who has two small children is not a parent in any sense of the word other than (possibly) a biological one.

If they waited another 2 hours, they would not have seen the “baby,” just a fat python.

This is criminal negligence.

How anyone can keep a PITBULL as a pet, especially with a small child around, is beyond me.

I don’t know about “Kaslin” specifically, but generally, I find it fascinating that many of you who justify pitbull ownership with children in the home, would be horrified at this story about a python killing a child. Same exact thing.

Maybe not a parent in the biological sense but he’s a live-in and an adult...parental.

I should have checked before I posted and should have said. How can anyone keep a snake, like a Python as a pet is beyond me. That said, how anyone can keep a snake as a pet is beyond me period

Having a python for a pet is like having a chimp for a pet. Soon they grow up and eat your face. Really, stupid people shouldn’t breed!
