I miss my “get mail” button: seems like such a simple thing to have dropped..
I have noticed it is slower.
Maybe its the inevitable result of designing and refining by committee.
What is the nightly tester tool?
Certain websites may not display correctly if you don't have Java. Updates are fairly frequent because vulnerabilities are found. If you have Java installed, be sure to keep it updated.
Chrome rocks on older boxes. I just upgraded an Opera installation on one of them and even that one is markedly improved. Good times for browsers if you don't mind a few rocks in the road.
I have it on a Vista Home Pr. machine and have noticed nothing like this. In fact, it does seem faster.
Its an addon/extension that changes the version number range of other addons to make them compatible temporarily.
An addon will have a set range of FF versions that it officially works with. This info is a simple text entry in the addons files. You can manually go in and change the range to include new FF versions before its author does. This will make the addon work, though doesn’t account for any real changes the author might include. Its temp. so most useful for smaller updates to FF, say from 3.5 to 3.5.1.
Google for more info and get the tester tool at Mozilla site.
I should clarify that nightly tester tools does the temp change for you, as opposed to doing it manually.
It must be configuration dependent. I have 3.5 and it loads and gets the home page in about a second.
Are you logged in?
That was a function that I did not use, so I had not noticed.
Overall I love Firefox. Have used it since the first public release.
Had used Mozilla and other related browsers before that.
Spent too much time cleaning up window machines that used IE, swore off. I think the final blow was realizing that when I deleted the cookies and history that they were still there, just marked to not show.
For years I would remove them manually from dos prompt, but not since XP.
Every time I mention how long it takes Firefox to load, I have been told no one else has the problem. So now I now I am not crazy.
Works fine on my Mac at home.
It’s slow as molasses for me.
Dell laptop with XP.
I have FireFox 3.5, IE 8, and the latest version of Safari on my XP box and, for me, FireFox 3.5 is the winner by far.
It is noticeably faster and far more stable than previous versions.
I updated to 3.5 two days ago, all of my plugins work, and this browser blisters!
I was just reading something about the private browsing feature. Have you used it? What do you think? Sounds like it needs some improvement.
I haven’t tried it. I usually just hit the “Clear Private Data” button when I think about it. LOL
.
I’m using Windows 7. Looks pretty good. Free download and activation key which will keep it free until next March when it will start to shut down and then stop next June. But you can buy it now for $49.95. Takes a while to download and burn an ISO disk but it’s pretty straight forward. Go for it.
Downloaded 3.5 yesterday, definitely faster for me. Only had to upgrade one plug-in and it works like a charm. I prefer 3.5 over 3.0. It hasn’t crashed yet :-)
