Weekly Sci-Fi Thread (07/05/09)
The SyFy channel amongst other things ^ | July 9, 2009 | Nonvalueadded

This week in Syfy:

Why the heck did they re-brand the SciFi channel as syphie? I mean, series, what a hugh mistake!

Assuming Kevin is on vacation, I did want to remind everyone that the new season of Eureka premiers Friday at 9 PM ET.

LOL... it would be a hoot if one of the characters made the same reference and jokingly asked: ‘So, is the Ark in here?’

Caught ‘Warehouse 13’ Tuesday night and it wasn’t that bad. Not great, but not bad.

The two Secret Service agents sent to the warehouse don’t have much chemistry, but it’s early. The show’s premise is kind of like dashes of ‘Bones’, ‘The Lost Room’ and ‘The X-Files’. With the agents following leads generated by ‘Atrie’, (Saul Rubinek, when he’s not storing aor stocking the gynormous Warehouse) regarding tragedies yet to happen. The agents (Myka and Pete) follow the leads and capture the atrifact and save the world. or a small part of it.

Not a bad start and the trailer for upcoming episodes has piqued my interest enough to keep watching.

Jack.

I am still not ready to accept SciFi as the name for 'science fiction'. Still looking forward to Caprica.

I’m looking into olden Irish words and phrases to use in a story right now. I am going to have words separated by centuries in one sentence.

I wish the new SyFy channel would start showing the old Doctor Who shows from the begining. Here’s the very first episode:

I watched it on Hulu last night, and I thought it was pretty cute, the concept and characters weren’t too original but were done pretty well, and I actually liked the steampunk feel of everything. Actually, it felt kind of tongue in cheek, ie, the two-way video things when a netbook with a built-in webcam could do the same thing, or sending a photo of the painting to the agents’ cell phones...

I liked Warehouse 13 and the start of Eureka was good.
