Dozens of firefighters from the Peninsula battled a stubborn fire early Thursday at the Columbus Salame plant in South San Francisco, a blaze that devastated the 42-year-old operation.
The four-alarm fire's advance was halted shortly after dawn when fire teams from several cities including South San Francisco, Daly City, Foster City and Burlingame squelched the main flames.
