Weekly Roundup - Living On Nothing Edition Category: Roundups | Comments(15)

Did you hear about the guy that lives on nothing? No seriously, he lives on zero dollars a day. Meet Daniel Suelo, who lives in a cave outside Moab, Utah. Suelo has no mortgage, no car payment, no debt of any kind. He also has no home, no car, no television, and absolutely no “creature comforts.” But he does have a lot of creatures, as in the mice and bugs that scurry about the cave floor he’s called home for the last three years.

To us, Suelo probably sounds a little extreme. Actually, he probably sounds very extreme. After all, I suspect most of you reading this are doing so under the protection of some sort of man-made shelter, and with some amount of money on your person, and probably a few needs for money, too. And who doesn’t need money unless they have completely unplugged from the grid? Still, it’s an amusing story about a guy who rejects all forms of consumerism as we know it.

Use Energy Star Appliances to Save On Utility Costs. I enjoyed this post because it included actual numbers, and actual total savings, from someone who upgraded to new, energy star appliances. (@The Digerati Life)

Over-Saving for Retirement? Is it possible to “over-save” for retirement? Yes, I think so. At some point I like the idea of putting some money aside in taxable investments outside of retirement funds, to be accessed prior to traditional retirement age. (@The Simple Dollar)

5 Reasons To Line Dry Your Laundry. My wife and I may soon be installing a clothesline in our backyard. In many neighborhoods they are frowned upon - one of the reasons I don’t like living in a neighborhood. I digress. One of our neighbors recently put up a clothesline, and we might just follow his lead. (@Simple Mom)

this is an eye opening article,,,

vote for “Mattress Savings Bank”<<<

Thanks, an interesting thread.

Do not bury money of the folding money type of bills, for if they get moisture in the jar, they become one mass of crap and are no longer money.

They were a mess and the bank would not accept them, got part back from the feds, but never all that I had there.

Big money, about $500. but all I had for cash/hiding then.

LOL, sometimes I say, “Where’s my baby bottle?” when I can’t find my bottled water. It is similar to a baby, but, I’m so used to it now I don’t give it a thought.

I agree about old mayo jars. I will buy Prego in glass jars instead of plastic bottles any day! And then save the jar.

I hate to throw away any glass products, but they get so piled up in the cupboards and under the sink, I do finally have to break down and get rid of some of them.

It is a little funny tho’ to think of you sipping out of one all day, makes me think of an old timer sipping on moonshine, LOL. No offense, granny.

Interesting about crossing the desert with just one gallon of Nescafe. Wow wow wow.

My parents to this day sip black coffee all day long. I had to kick the coffee habit after being extremely addicted for 25 years. Now, I still get a hankering for and do have decaf once in a while.

And my green tea still has caffeine in it — BTW, I drink HOT tea all year round !!!

So I am not totally caffeine free, but black coffee is out.

I try very hard to avoid aluminum and plastic around my food. I also avoid microwaving food as much as possible.

I even use a saucepan on the stove to boil my water for tea. The “namebrand” tea kettle I bought at TJMaxx rusted after about a year and that is WITH me emptying it out and leaving the lid off all the time !!!

Cheerio,
Joya

The U.S. Banking Crisis Is Just Beginning

The dichotomy between the fantasy-world of U.S. business reporting and the real world continues to widen. While the media has unequivocally claimed that “the worst is over” for the U.S. banking sector, the employees and shareholders of the 77 U.S. banks which have already gone belly-up this year might choose to dispute this claim.

Five more insolvent U.S. banks were seized by the FDIC in its weekly salvage operations Friday night. As is becoming increasingly common, even with the large bribes which it offers potential buyers, it couldn’t find takers for all of these bankrupt companies.

Bank bankruptcies have already more than tripled the total for all of last year, and are steadily accelerating. Meanwhile, for a nearly endless list of reasons, the crisis in this sector can only get much worse.

Thanks to the U.S. accounting ‘watch-dog’ – the FASB – legalizing fraudulent accounting (see “FASB strong-armed into mark-to-fantasy accounting”), the “solution” which the bankster oligarchs have come up with to the mass-insolvency of U.S. banks is to simply hide a lot more bad loans. Indeed, fraudulent accounting has become a way of life for the U.S.

and again:

Coming Soon: Banking Crisis of Historic Proportions

With everyone (well, almost everyone - I am one of the lonely skeptics) convinced that we have stepped back from the “edge of the abyss”, the title of this article may be viewed as laughable. When you connect the dots, as I will in this article, you will at least stop laughing, and, maybe, realize that we still have a big problem.

We have a confluence of five factors that have the potential to create damage to banking not seen in 80 years, and that includes the Great Depression. We’ll hit these factors one at a time.

FDA Issues Final Rules to Help Patients Gain Access to Investigational Drugs

FDA Issues Final Rules to Help Patients Gain Access to Investigational Drugs
Source: U.S. Food and Drug Administration

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration published two rules today that seek to clarify the methods available to seriously ill patients interested in gaining access to investigational drugs and biologics when they are not eligible to participate in a clinical trial and don’t have other satisfactory treatment options.

To support the effort to help these patients, the agency also is launching a new Web site where patients and their health care professionals can learn about options for investigational drugs. In general, these options include being treated with a drug that has been approved by FDA, being given an investigational drug as part of a clinical trial, or obtaining access to an investigational drug outside of a clinical trial.

The new rule, “Expanded Access to Investigational Drugs for Treatment Use,” makes investigational drugs more widely available to patients by clarifying procedures and standards. The other rule, “Charging for Investigational Drugs Under an Investigational New Drug Application,” clarifies the specific circumstances and the types of costs for which a manufacturer can charge patients for an investigational drug when used as part of a clinical trial or when used outside the scope of a clinical trial.

CRS — Federal Research and Development Funding: FY2010

Federal Research and Development Funding: FY2010 (PDF; 465 KB)
Source: Congressional Research Service (via OpenCRS)

President Obama has requested $147.620 billion for R&D in FY2010, a $555 million (0.4%) increase from the estimated FY2009 R&D funding level of $147.065 million (not including FY2009 R&D funding provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (P.L. 111- 5). According to the Obama Administration, preliminary allocations of R&D funding provided under P.L. 111-5 brings total FY2009 R&D funding to $165.400 billion. Unless otherwise noted in this report, comparisons of FY2009 and FY2010 R&D funding do not incorporate funding provided under P.L. 111-5.

Congress will play a central role in defining the nation’s R&D priorities, especially with respect to two overarching issues: the extent to which the Federal R&D investment can grow in the context of increased pressure on discretionary spending and how available funding will be prioritized and allocated. A low or negative growth rate in the overall R&D investment may require movement of resources across disciplines, programs, or agencies to address priorities.

Under the President’s request, six federal agencies would receive 95.1% of total federal R&D spending: the Department of Defense (54.0%), Department of Health and Human Services (largely the National Institutes of Health) (21.0%), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (7.7%), Department of Energy (7.3%), National Science Foundation (3.6%), and Department of Agriculture (1.5%). NASA would receive the largest dollar increase for R&D of any agency, $1.038 billion (10.0%) above its FY2009 funding level. The Department of Defense would receive the largest cut in R&D funding, $1.929 billion (-2.4%) below its FY2009 level.

The President’s FY2010 request includes: $30.884 billion for basic research, up $1.003 billion (3.4%) from FY2009; $28.139 billion for applied research, down $627 million (-2.2%); $84.054 billion for development, up $167 million (0.2%); and $4.543 billion for R&D facilities and equipment, up $12 million (0.3%). The FY2010 request includes funding for three multiagency R&D initiatives: National Nanotechnology Initiative, $1.637 billion, down $17 million (-1.0%); Networking and Information Technology R&D program, $3.927 billion, up $44 million (1.1%); and Climate Change Science Program, $2.026 billion, up $46 million (2.3%).

President Obama has requested increases in the R&D budgets of the three agencies that were targeted for doubling in the America COMPETES Act and by President Bush as part of his American Competitiveness Initiative: the Department of Energy Office of Science (up 3.5%), the National Science Foundation (up 8.6%), and the Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology’s core research and facilities (up 1.2%).

For the past three years, federal R&D funding and execution has been affected by mechanisms used to complete the annual appropriations process–the year-long continuing resolution for FY2007 (P.L. 110-5) and the combining of multiple regular appropriations bills into the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2008 for FY2008 (P.L. 110-161), and the Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009 (P.L. 111-8). Completion of appropriations after the beginning of each fiscal year may cause agencies to delay or cancel some planned R&D and equipment acquisition.

To the extent possible, the agency discussions in this report include an analysis of House and Senate actions with respect to R&D funding. In some cases, however, there is insufficient information to parse agency R&D funding from other spending.

Why not use the money to maintain the systems???

Because “They won and don’t know about maintanence!!!”

CSEPP [Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program] plans to remove ‘safe zones’ after depot is done [OR]
“The Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program [CSEPP] has put a lot of work into making sure schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other big buildings have a place people can go to if there was a chemical emergency. To do that, it created safe zones with air filtration systems that could hold people for up to 12 hours. Now CSEPP will have to take out those systems. With the Umatilla Chemical Depot in its last campaign - possibly finishing work in 2010 or 2011 - CSEPP and Umatilla County Emergency Management has to be ready to remove all the systems they’ve put in 39 buildings in Umatilla and Morrow counties. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, is paying the estimated $2.73 million to remove all the systems. […] The main reason CSEPP will take out these systems is because schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other places can’t afford the upkeep. ‘Our maintenance budget is a little less than a half million dollars a year,’ [Bill Howard, assistant emergency manager with Umatilla County] said. ‘It’s expensive and nobody wants to pay for that when they don’t need it.’ Howard wasn’t sure what will happen to the filtration systems once they’re removed. He said he’s asked, with no response, whether other places where chemical weapons are being destroyed can use them. […] Clara Brownell Middle School in Umatilla may keep some of the system to provide air conditioning and heat to its gym. Otherwise all the other 39 buildings are having the systems removed. The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners decided after an hour-long discussion Wednesday to tackle the project. The county could have shuffled it off to FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers. Emergency Manager Jim Stearns urged the county to handle the removal.” (East Oregonian; 13Aug09; Samantha

IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] tracks illicit possession of nuclear materials
“The International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA] last year received reports of 15 cases of illicit nuclear material possession or related incidents and 16 cases involving the theft or loss of sensitive substances, the organization announced last week in its annual report for 2008. […] As of the end of last year, the database had recorded 1,562 nuclear trafficking incidents dating back to 1993, ranging from illicit disposal efforts to discoveries of ‘orphan’ nuclear material with an unknown provenance. […] ‘The continued reporting by states of incidents - whether criminal, unauthorized or inadvertent in nature - points to the need for further improvement of measures to control and secure nuclear and other radioactive material, wherever used or located, and of capabilities to detect illicit nuclear trafficking and other unauthorized acts involving such material,’ the report states. The agency warned again of the danger of diversion of nuclear materials. ‘Malicious acts involving nuclear or other radioactive material are a continuing worldwide threat,’ the report states. ‘Existing data indicate circumstances in which nuclear and other radioactive material is uncontrolled or is in unauthorized circulation.
Related facilities and transports are at risk from acts of sabotage.’ […] The agency carried out 21 advisory missions last year that generated sets of proposals for states to improve the security of nuclear materials and related infrastructure, establish nuclear regulatory systems, counter nuclear smuggling and prepare for nuclear or radiological attacks, the report’s authors wrote.” (Global Security Newswire; 17Aug09) http://www.globalsecuritynewswire.org/gsn/nw_20090817_4827.php

It is a little funny tho’ to think of you sipping out of one all day, makes me think of an old timer sipping on moonshine, LOL. No offense, granny.<<<

LOL, one is never far from their roots, for they say that my grandmother and father were excellent bootleggers.

I remember my dads 5 gallon pots of beer working, no matter how little there was to eat, we had beer.

Is that why I still think of beer and wine and food, I never could drink them with out food.

I don’t even use plastic plates in the microwave, buy cheap paper ones for that or use the regular china plates.

I thought from the beginning that the plastic was going to enter the food and body, there have now been tests over the years, that show plastic in our blood streams.

Finally a couple years ago, Dr. Bill Wattenberg, the nuclear scientist on KGO radio, talked about it.

He puts no plastic in the microwave, said that when it gets hot, it gives off a part of himself.

Dr. Bill begged folks to not put the non-glass baby bottles in the microwave, for you are getting the chemicals from the plastics in the milk.

He has a second and young family, so he has given extra thought to the subject, at the time, his latest was about a year old.

Dr. Bill has 3 or 4 kids that are middle aged scientists, professors, etc.

Then he remarried and started over again.

He broadcasts from his home in the mountains and does not come to San Francisco for the broadcasts.

One night, he got edgier and edgier, and I could not figure out why, for the show was running smoothly.

After the top of the hour break, he explained.

His 4 year old daughter had gotten up when she woke up and being all alone, no Dr. Bill to come and tuck her in, she simply got out of her bed and turned on every electronic toy and gadget that she had in her room, then went back to bed to enjoy the company.

I can imagine Dr. Bill attempting to keep the sounds from reaching the audience and not loose it, with all the noise, for she has to own every gadget, for Dr. Bill invents them.

Stick with glass, it is the only way to go.

The Gov’t. spent more than - $23.20 for each and every hour YOU will work this year.

But, but - according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average hourly wage nationwide is only $17.81.

Mine is well less than that. I refuse to work and support the socialist agenda as long as taxes on a 2nd income are confiscatory.

The more taxes are raised, the more spouses will start to figure out how they are punished by excessive taxation. Maybe. Even with the deliberate dumbing down of the populace, I still think more and more will figure it out eventually.

Insurance would become a “grandpa used to talk about insurance, but we don’t use it any more, the gov takes care of us, quit crying cause you are hungry, you know today is a no food day, the gov says “no food to be eaten on tuesdays”.

“Fasting on Tuesday, will save food”. [for the elites]

First we will have to re-brainwash them, into thinking a woman is a woman and a man is a man.

A woman can never be a man, no matter how she tries.

Once a woman proves she is a woman, the men will allow her to work like a man....LOL

When the women burned their bras and left the home, they were brainwashed to think they were not whole, if they stayed home, it is all a part of the communist manifesto.

My opinion of course.

My parents and grandparents all tried to leave a better world for me - I always thought I was trying to do the same for my kids. Where did I fail?

By spoiling them. Not you personally, of course, but IMO when parents try to GIVE their children a better life than they themselves had, it just created the entitlement attitude that has got us where we are today. Giving opportunities, giving chances, giving an education, are all fine. But the kids need to EARN a better world. Just MHO.

Communist Goals (1963)

http://www.uhuh.com/nwo/communism/comgoals.htm
Documention below

Congressional Record—Appendix, pp. A34-A35

January 10, 1963

Current Communist Goals

EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Thursday, January 10, 1963

Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an
ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently
published
the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the
public to the dangers of communism in America.

At Mrs. Nordman’s request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous
consent,
the following “Current Communist Goals,” which she identifies as an
excerpt
from “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen:

[From “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen]

CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic
war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic
war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States
would
be a demonstration of moral strength.

4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist
affiliation
and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist
domination.

7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.

8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of
Khrushchev’s
promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under
supervision of the U.N.

9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United
States has
agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is
rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its
own
independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can
be
taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two
centers
compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American
institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for
socialism
and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of
teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or
organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments,
editorial
writing, policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of
artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate
all
good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward
and
meaningless forms.”

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to
promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship”
and
a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography
and
obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal,
natural,
healthy.”

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social”
religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual
maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the
schools on
the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and
state.”

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate,
old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to
cooperation
between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish
aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching
of
American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the
“big
picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists
took
over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any
part
of the culture—education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental
health
clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation
of
the Communist apparatus.

34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social
agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which
no
one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a
means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist
goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and
easy
divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative
influence of
parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children
to
suppressive influence of parents.

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate
aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest
groups
should rise up and use [”]united force[”] to solve economic, political
or
social problems.

43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are
ready
for self-government.

44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent
the
World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the
World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

TERROR MODUS OPERANDI

The Muslim Brotherhood ‘Project’ (back)

May 11, 2007

One might be led to think that if international law enforcement authorities and Western intelligence agencies had discovered a twenty-year old document revealing a top-secret plan developed by the oldest Islamist organization with one of the most extensive terror networks in the world to launch a program of ‘cultural invasion’ and eventual conquest of the West that virtually mirrors the tactics used by Islamists for more than two decades, that such news would scream from headlines published on the front pages and above the fold of the New York Times, Washington Post, London Times, Le Monde, Bild, and La Repubblica.

If that’s what you might think, you would be wrong.

In fact, such a document was recovered in a raid by Swiss authorities in November 2001, two months after the horror of 9/11. Since that time information about this document, known in counterterrorism circles as ‘The Project’, and discussion regarding its content has been limited to the top-secret world of Western intelligence communities. Only through the work of an intrepid Swiss journalist, Sylvain Besson of Le Temps, and his book published in October 2005 in France, La conquête de l’Occident: Le projet secret des Islamistes (The Conquest of the West: The Islamists’ Secret Project), has information regarding The Project finally been made public. One Western official cited by Besson has described The Project as ‘a totalitarian ideology of infiltration which represents, in the end, the greatest danger for European societies.’

Now FrontPage readers will be the first to be able to read the complete English translation of The Project.

What Western intelligence authorities know about The Project begins with the raid of a luxurious villa in Campione , Switzerland on November 7, 2001. The target of the raid was Youssef Nada, director of the Al-Taqwa Bank of Lugano, who has had active association with the Muslim Brotherhood for more than 50 years and who admitted to being one of the organization’s international leaders. The Muslim Brotherhood, regarded as the oldest and one of the most important Islamist movements in the world, was founded by Hasan al-Banna in 1928 and dedicated to the credo, ‘Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. Qur’an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.’

The raid was conducted by Swiss law enforcement at the request of the White House in the initial crackdown on terrorist finances in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. US and Swiss investigators had been looking at Al-Taqwa’s involvement in money laundering and funding a wide range of Islamic terrorist groups, including Al-Qaeda, HAMAS (the Palestinian affiliate of the Muslim Brotherhood), the Algerian GIA, and the Tunisian Ennahdah.

Included in the documents seized during the raid of Nada’s Swiss villa was a 14-page plan written in Arabic and dated December 1, 1982, which outlines a 12-point strategy to ‘establish an Islamic government on earth’ - identified as The Project. According to testimony given to Swiss authorities by Nada, the unsigned document was prepared by ‘Islamic researchers’ associated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

What makes The Project so different from the standard ‘Death of America! Death to Israel !’ and ‘Establish the global caliphate!’ Islamist rhetoric is that it represents a flexible, multi-phased, long-term approach to the ‘cultural invasion’ of the West. Calling for the utilization of various tactics, ranging from immigration, infiltration, surveillance, propaganda, protest, deception, political legitimacy and terrorism, The Project has served for more than two decades as the Muslim Brotherhood ‘master plan’. As can be seen in a number of examples throughout Europe - including the political recognition of parallel Islamist government organizations in Sweden, the recent ‘cartoon’ jihad in Denmark, the Parisian car-burning intifada last November, and the 7/7 terrorist attacks in London - the plan outlined in The Project has been overwhelmingly successful.

Rather than focusing on terrorism as the sole method of group action, as is the case with Al-Qaeda, in perfect postmodern fashion the use of terror falls into a multiplicity of options available to progressively infiltrate, confront, and eventually establish Islamic domination over the West. The following tactics and techniques are among the many recommendations made in The Project:

* Networking and coordinating actions between likeminded Islamist organizations;
* Avoiding open alliances with known terrorist organizations and individuals to maintain the appearance of ‘moderation’;
* Infiltrating and taking over existing Muslim organizations to realign them towards the Muslim Brotherhood’s collective goals;
* Using deception to mask the intended goals of Islamist actions, as long as it doesn’t conflict with shari’a law;
* Avoiding social conflicts with Westerners locally, nationally or globally, that might damage the long-term ability to expand the Islamist powerbase in the West or provoke a lash back against Muslims;
* Establishing financial networks to fund the work of conversion of the West, including the support of full-time administrators and workers;
* Conducting surveillance, obtaining data, and establishing collection and data storage capabilities;
* Putting into place a watchdog system for monitoring Western media to warn Muslims of ‘international plots fomented against them’;
* Cultivating an Islamist intellectual community, including the establishment of think-tanks and advocacy groups, and publishing ‘academic’ studies, to legitimize Islamist positions and to chronicle the history of Islamist movements;
* Developing a comprehensive 100-year plan to advance Islamist ideology throughout the world;
* Balancing international objectives with local flexibility;
* Building extensive social networks of schools, hospitals and charitable organizations dedicated to Islamist ideals so that contact with the movement for Muslims in the West is constant;
* Involving ideologically committed Muslims in democratically-elected institutions on all levels in the West, including government, NGOs, private organizations and labor unions;
* Instrumentally using existing Western institutions until they can be converted and put into service of Islam;
* Drafting Islamic constitutions, laws and policies for eventual implementation;
* Avoiding conflict within the Islamist movements on all levels, including the development of processes for conflict resolution;
* Instituting alliances with Western ‘progressive’ organizations that share similar goals;
* Creating autonomous ‘security forces’ to protect Muslims in the West;
* Inflaming violence and keeping Muslims living in the West ‘in a jihad frame of mind’;
* Supporting jihad movements across the Muslim world through preaching, propaganda, personnel, funding, and technical and operational support;
* Making the Palestinian cause a global wedge issue for Muslims;
* Adopting the total liberation of Palestine from Israel and the creation of an Islamic state as a keystone in the plan for global Islamic domination;
* Instigating a constant campaign to incite hatred by Muslims against Jews and rejecting any discussions of conciliation or coexistence with them;
* Actively creating jihad terror cells within Palestine ;
* Linking the terrorist activities in Palestine with the global terror movement;
* Collecting sufficient funds to indefinitely perpetuate and support jihad around the world;

In reading The Project, it should be kept in mind that it was drafted in 1982 when current tensions and terrorist activities in the Middle East were still very nascent. In many respects, The Project is extremely prescient for outlining the bulk of Islamist action, whether by ‘moderate’ Islamist organizations or outright terror groups, over the past two decades.

At present, most of what is publicly known about The Project is the result of Sylvain Besson’s investigative work, including his book and a related article published last October in the Swiss daily, Le Temps, L’islamisme à la conquête du monde (Islamism and the Conquest of the World), profiling his book, which is only available in a French-language edition. At least one Egyptian newspaper, Al-Mussawar, published the entire Arabic text of The Project last November.

In the English-language press, the attention paid to Besson’s revelation of The Project has been almost non-existent. The only mention found in a mainstream media publication in the US has been as a secondary item in an article in the Weekly Standard (February 20, 2006) by Olivier Guitta, The Cartoon Jihad. The most extensive commentary on The Project has been by an American researcher and journalist living in London , Scott Burgess, who has posted his analysis of the document on his blog, The Daily Ablution. Along with his commentary, an English translation of the French text of The Project was serialized in December (Parts I, II, III, IV, V, Conclusion). The complete English translation prepared by Mr. Burgess is presented in its entirety here with his permission.

The lack of public discussion about The Project notwithstanding, the document and the plan it outlines has been the subject of considerable discussion amongst the Western intelligence agencies. One US counterterrorism official who spoke with Besson about The Project, and who is cited in Guitta’s Weekly Standard article, is current White House terrorism czar, Juan Zarate. Calling The Project a Muslim Brotherhood master plan for ‘spreading their political ideology,’ Zarate expressed concerns to Besson because ‘the Muslim Brotherhood is a group that worries us not because it deals with philosophical or ideological ideas but because it defends the use of violence against civilians.’

One renowned international scholar of Islamist movements who also spoke with Besson, Reuven Paz, talked about The Project in its historical context:

The Project was part of the charter of the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood, which was official established on July 29, 1982. It reflects a vast plan which was revived in the 1960s, with the immigration of Brotherhood intellectuals, principally Syrian and Egyptians, into Europe .

As Paz notes, The Project was drafted by the Muslim Brotherhood as part of its rechartering process in 1982, a time that marks an upswing in its organizational expansion internationally, as well as a turning point in the alternating periods of repression and toleration by the Egyptian government. In 1952, the organization played a critical support role to the Free Officers Movement led by Gamal Abdul Nasser, which overthrew King Faruq, but quickly fell out of favor with the new revolutionary regime because of Nasser ‘s refusal to follow the Muslim Brotherhood’s call to institute an ideologically committed Islamic state. At various times since the July Revolution in 1952, the Brotherhood has regularly been banned and its leaders killed and imprisoned by Egyptian authorities.

Since it was rechartered in 1982, the Muslim Brotherhood has spread its network across the Middle East, Europe, and even America . At home in Egypt , parliamentary elections in 2005 saw the Muslim Brotherhood winning 20 percent of the available legislative seats, comprising the largest opposition party block. Its Palestinian affiliate, known to the world as HAMAS, recently gained control of the Palestinian Authority after elections secured for them 74 of 132 seats in the Palestinian Legislative Council. Its Syrian branch has historically been the largest organized group opposing the Assad regime, and the organization also has affiliates in Jordan , Sudan , and Iraq . In the US , the Muslim Brotherhood is primarily represented by the Muslim American Society (MAS).

Since its formation, the Muslim Brotherhood has advocated the use of terrorism as a means of advancing its agenda of global Islamic domination. But as the largest popular radical movement in the Islamic world, it has attracted many leading Islamist intellectuals. Included among this group of Muslim Brotherhood intellectuals is Youssef Qaradawi, an Egyptian-born, Qatar-based Islamist cleric.

As one of the leading Muslim Brotherhood spiritual figures and radical Islamic preachers (who has his own weekly program on Al-Jazeera), Qaradawi has been one of the leading apologists of suicide bombings in Israel and terrorism against Western interests in the Middle East . Both Sylvain Besson and Scott Burgess provide extensive comparisons between Qaradawi’s publication, Priorities of the Islamic Movement in the Coming Phase, published in 1990, and The Project, which predates Qaradawi’s Priorities by eight years. They note the striking similarities in the language used and the plans and methods both documents advocate. It is speculated that The Project was either used by Qaradawi as a template for his own work, or that he had a hand in its drafting in 1982. Perhaps coincidentally, Qaradawi was the fourth largest shareholder in the Al-Taqwa Bank of Lugano, the director of which, Youssef Nada, was the individual in whose possession The Project was found. Since 1999, Qaradawi has been banned from entering the US as a result of his connections to terrorist organizations and his outspoken advocacy of terrorism.

For those who have read The Project, what is most troubling is not that Islamists have developed a plan for global dominance; it has been assumed by experts that Islamist organizations and terrorist groups have been operating off an agreed-upon set of general principles, networks and methodology. What is startling is how effectively the Islamist plan for conquest outlined in The Project has been implemented by Muslims in the West for more than two decades. Equally troubling is the ideology that lies behind the plan: inciting hatred and violence against Jewish populations around the world; the deliberate co-opting and subversion of Western public and private institutions; its recommendation of a policy of deliberate escalating confrontation by Muslims living in the West against their neighbors and fellow-citizens; the acceptance of terrorism as a legitimate option for achieving their ends and the inevitable reality of jihad against non-Muslims; and its ultimate goal of forcibly instituting the Islamic rule of the caliphate by shari’a in the West, and eventually the whole world.

If the experience over the past quarter of a century seen in Europe and the US is any indication, the ‘Islamic researchers’ who drafted The Project more than two decades ago must be pleased to see their long-term plan to conquer the West and to see the Green flag of Islam raised over its citizens realized so rapidly, efficiently and completely. If Islamists are equally successful in the years to come, Westerners ought to enjoy their personal and political freedoms while they last.

When the women burned their bras and left the home, they were brainwashed to think they were not whole, if they stayed home, it is all a part of the communist manifesto.

I'm with you on that granny. Feminazis have created women that think men aren't important, broken homes, confused and depressed children, and the standard of living of women compared to men was much better before than now. More women and children live in poverty because of the propaganda. Well, because they were stupid enough to believe it actually. (ps, I'm wearing my bra!)
