INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Memphis has been stripped by the NCAA of every victory in its 38-win season under coach John Calipari that ended in the national title game last year. The reason: an ineligible player believed to be Derrick Rose.

The announcement Thursday came 16 months after the Tigers lost to Kansas in the championship game following the 2007-08 season. Memphis president Shirley Raines said the school would appeal the ruling.

Big Kansas Jayhawk fan here!

Does this mean our championship isn’t legitimate?

Are we going to have to replay the entire tourney? How about the season?

If we would have lost the championship game against Memphis, we would probably be declared champs, post de facto, right?

We did beat the team that cheated, though. Rock Chalk!

Would you have rather beaten a team that cheated, or—had Memphis won the game—be awarded the title by default?

Radio here in Memphis is wondering if this means Coach Cal’s owes his bonuses back.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk! Go KU!

Glad KU the good guys won that game as it would have been a bigger blow to have lost it and now have the Memphis Tigers stripped of their title. All of them Tiger teams are bad. Memphis Tigers or even worst the Missouri Tigers!

KY better watch out as Coach Cal will put them in the hot seat too.

That was a very close game. If Memphis would have shot better free throws down the stretch (They were horrid), the game would not have went into overtime. Actually, that was the Tigers’ game to lose and they lost it. Gotta give props to Self and his Jayhawks for great strategy and execution!

I wasn’t serious about the possibilities I was positing. The right team won that day and that’s all that matters.

Presumably Kansas will have to play UCLA for the championship since the Bruins did not lose to a legitimate team during the Tourney.

UCLA is the team that really got cheated in the tourney as did as all the teams in Conference USA during the regular season.

I know. But had Memphis won the game and would be forced to vacate the title, it would probably feel like a hollow title to KU fans. No?

It would feel hollow for sure. If you aren’t champions on game night, what’s the point? Going out to get drunk sure wouldn’t be as fun as it was just right after the game.

The whole thing would feel almost meaningless.

Now you sound like my son at KU! He always says it this way! University of Misery

or 26,000 students and four last names.

Interesting comment on the Commerical Appeal site:

I have to disagree with everyone of you good people. The problem is not with R.C. Johnson; the problem is not with Calipari; nor is it with Derrick Rose. The problem is with the hypocritical institution known as the NCAA. It is this phoney cartel that pimps people like Rose who wants to use his world-class athletic skills to earn a living but is practically forced to masquerade as a student-athlete for the benefit of those who exploit him. At the end of the day it should not matter whether he took an entrance exam. He wasn't recruited to be a scholar. He was brought in to win ballgames - and he did just that. It's not Rose who should have to take the blame for a game fixed by well-educated, well-heeled, capitalistic white men. Rose, CDR, Joey, Antonio, Robert, and all the rest of the players are the victims in this sham the multi-billion dollar NCAA calls college amateur sports.

The NCAA cleared Rose to play.
THEN they turn around and hose Memphis for their mistake.

Selective injustice imposed by narcissistic tyrants.

Meanwhile, shallow headline-readers parrot the spittle-flecked mouthings of media buffoons, and once again, the truth is obfuscated, and the one who is responsible basks in darkness on his pile of green.

To be clear, I am not piling on you, bert...especially since it appears your conference-loyalties are in order, HA! :)

Indeed, the comment on the Commercial Appeal site is quite instructive, as it clearly portrays the mindset of the typical closet-racist liberal.

You see, individuals aren’t responsible...institutions are. Especially those populated by (insert hate-filled, envious pejorative here) white men.

I can’t wait till the University of Kentucky has this happen to them in a few years.
