Here is a video report from The Today Show this morning about Reality TV star Ryan Jenkins being found dead, hanging in a British Columbia hotel room. He was a fugitive from police, wanted for the murder of his wife - model and aspiring actress Jasmine Fiore. She was found dead earlier this month. I know precisely where the Thunderbird Motel is in Hope, BC. And it isn’t a particularly long drive there from the Blaine/Douglas Border Crossing: about an hour.
Wunerful stuff ay? Should have just hung himself first and spared his model wife from his atrocity.

Agree. And Hope BC seems like a bizarre place to commit suicide. It is beautiful and picturesque and back-woodsy, sitting as it does in the crotch of three hiway routes to the BC Interior. Most people just drive on thru...
Unless there’s some sort of bizarre symbolism behind abandoning life in “Hope”.
And anyway, why would he hang himself in Hope when he could have shot himself in LA? Hanging’s a rough way to go...

In truth, I know Hope well, as I was born and raised in British Columbia — I haven’t always been a Kiwi.
Hope’s on the Fraser River, just before “Hell’s Gate”. Keep driving thru Hope and it’s not too long before you get to Manning Park, which is where most BC tourists become acquainted with bears: black bears mostly, tho’ there are grizzlies if you know where to look for ‘em. Beyond that is the BC Interior and rattlesnake country.
I spent many, many happy times in Hope and beyond thru to Vernon, north to Prince George and as far as the Yukon, and all points in-between. It’s a magical part of the world.
