Here is audio of Ed Klein on the Diane Rehm Show saying that one of Sen. Ted Kennedy's "favorite topics of humor was Chappaquiddick."
Chappaquiddick is where Ted Kennedy drove Mary Jo Kopechne off a bridge in his car in 1969, where he swam to safety and left her to drown in the car. Kennedy did not call authorities for several hours. He was never charged with a felony. He made an "apology speech" several days after her death.

That’s a knee-slapper, all right.
It was about ten hours wasn't it?
Glenn Beck is on this right now.....and I’m about to wet myself laughing at him making fun of NPR. He’s on this like ‘white on rice’.
SICK!
My husband said “at least they didn’t need to embalm Kennedy, and don’t smoke around the casket it might blow up!”
From Wikipedia:
Discovery of the body
Earlier that morning, two amateur fishermen had seen the overturned car in the water and notified the inhabitants of the cottage nearest to the pond, who called the authorities at around 8:20 am.[14] A diver was sent down and discovered Kopechne’s body at around 8:45 am.[15] The diver, John Farrar, later testified at the inquest that Kopechne’s body was pressed up in the car in the spot where an air bubble would have formed. He interpreted this to mean that Kopechne had survived for a while after the initial accident in the air bubble, and concluded that
“Had I received a call within five to ten minutes of the accident occurring, and was able, as I was the following morning, to be at the victim’s side within twenty-five minutes of receiving the call, in such event there is a strong possibility that she would have been alive on removal from the submerged car.”[8]
Farrar believed that Kopechne “lived for at least two hours down there.”[16]
Subsequent events
Police checked the car’s license plate and saw that it was registered to Kennedy.[1] When Kennedy, still at the pay phone by the ferry crossing, saw that the body had been discovered, he crossed back to Edgartown and went to the police station; Gargan simultaneously went to the hotel where the Boiler Room Girls were staying to inform them about the incident.[2]
Kennedy’s initial statement
At 10 am Kennedy entered the police station in Edgartown, made a couple of phone calls, then dictated a statement to his aide Paul Markham, which was then given to the police.
I was looking at Ted’s eyes during the news coverage.
Sometimes he looks okay, other times he looks evil.
Beck was absolutely hilarious!!
It is hilarious.
I just read a Republican health care reform bill....
looks pretty good to me! only 2.5 pages long. Easy to read.

Anyone who thinks that these liberal icons really care about the “little people” that they “serve” is delusional.
How the hell did Kennedy get out and she did not. What did he do shut the door?
I’m speechless. I was a kid when this came down. I still am shocked. Anyone else having done this would have been given the death penalty. He lived to make a joke out of her.
Well, they certainly couldn't cremate him...it would take three days to put out the fire.
probably. when the car was pulled out, the doors were closed. maybe he got out before the car hit the water.
Just heard John Rich on radio saying that the REPRESENTATIVES are NOT Kings or Princes, they are our PUBLIC SERVANTS!
Planning is everything...
Would a drunk driver have good enough reflexes to jump out so suddenly?
He at least would have known what happened.
She was probably jarred awake, heavily intoxicated, in a darkened upside down car that was rapidly filling with water. It would have been hard for her to even know where she was and what had happened — until it was too late.
Thanks
There were skid marks all the way to the edge of the bridge.
He would had to have had his foot on the brake all the way.
how would you shut the door as you are getting out of a moving vehicle going off a bridge? I guess it could have been shut by the water..I dont know..what was the excuse given at the time by experts?
One of the top google trends on the day he died was mary jo pregnant.
