Evenin’ Amy.

September already? (well, in 1-1/2 hrs here on the left coast). We’re gonna hit 92 degrees tomorrow - where I’m from Sept always meant cooler weather. In the meantime, the perspiration is rolling off like sweat.

Our grandson came down with flu-like symptoms and as you can imagine we’re pretty concerned. Dr conducted some tests to rule out Swine Flu and we’ll know in a couple of days. Meanwhile, he’ll miss a few days of school.

Have a great time in DC. Wish I could join y’all.

Praying that it isn’t Swine Flu. I’m just not sure what to expect from the flu this year. While some say the media is hyping it too much, I still worry. Give the grandson a big hug and a GET WELL from Amy’s.

I’m trying to keep Marissa and myself pumped full of vitamin C until after we get home from DC.

Running A Marathon

The Comrades Marathon, which began in 1921, is the oldest ultra-marathon. Covering 90 km (56 miles), it is held annually in South Africa. Bruce Fordyce completely dominated this marathon in the 1980s, winning it nine times between 1981 and 1990. His 1986 record of 5 hours 24 minutes and 7 seconds stood for 21 years before it was finally broken in 2007. It’s amazing to me that he has continued to run in this race every year.

In a sense, we as Christians are all in a marathon. It takes endurance to run and finish the race of life. When the apostle Paul wrote his letter to the Philippians, he spoke of how he was “reaching forward to those things which are ahead” (3:13) and pressing on “toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (v.14).

Our Lord Jesus has set an example of how to run life’s marathon. The Bible tells us that Jesus “for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Heb. 12:2). Despite “hostility from sinners,” He completed His race (v.3).

The secret to finishing well is to look forward to the joy that awaits us after life’s race—eternal life with Him.

Yes Yorkie, the smoke has actually been seen clear into San Diego.
Northridge is in the Valley but still would get plenty of smoke.

Today when I took daughter to school our cars were covered in ash. the drive up to Glendale towards the fire area brought “ showers” of ash.

Now there's an idea! You wouldn't have to go drag out all the boxes of decorating stuff the end of November or first part of December; this way you wouldn't have to put the stuff away now, get it out again in three months, and put it away once more!

Am I right, Meg? There are so many birds that I’ve never heard of .... how did I live all these years without at least hearing about them? Some of these birds are so brightly colored .... they are beuautiful.

You're welcome. :) I don't know where all these brightly colored birds LIVE! I get excited just seeing a hummingbird here! But we have lots of quail, and it's the sweetest thing to watch a mother and half a dozen or more little ones scurrying along behind her single-file. And doves by the dozens - so pretty!

Today is much calmer than yesterday. It is great to be able to spend a little time here today.

The convention cut into my Amy’s Place time yesterday. I’ve had some time just for me today. Hooray!!!

We have quail and dove and an occasional pheasant. We also have sparrows by the thousands and several of the little house finches. The seldom seen blue jay is about as brightly colored bird as we ever see.
