On Thursdays Good Morning America, for the third time in two years, Sam Champion interviewed an extreme environmentalist who shunned toilet paper for a year as part of a project to be carbon neutral. Colin Beavan, also known as "No Impact Man," appeared on the show to promote a new documentary and book on his experience. This time, however, Champion downplayed the bizarre elements of Beavans life.
The host made no mention of the fact that, in addition to not using amenities such as elevators, cars and electricity, Beavan also stopped partaking in the practice of using toilet paper. (This aspect was noted on ABCNews.com.) Champion did refer to the project as a "year-long experiment in living extreme green." But, the ABC weatherman skipped any discussion of the left-wing nature of Beavan's life...

I only have one thing to say. Bet you a beer that that his neighbors and wife call him "Impacted Man."
Well, I assume we’re taking No Impact Man’s word for it that he “shunned toilet paper” for a year. I mean, how do you fact-check a claim like that?
Please, nobody answer. It’s a rhetorical question.
Whew! Thanks, I almost missed your last comment!
I know it was rhetorical, but I expect Leftypedia will volunteer to do it. Either that or Van Jones after Obama fires him. He is an ecofreak, after all.
I believe this man was standing in line in front of me at the MN State Fair.
Between the filming and the hundreds of thousands of TV sets turned on to watch his bit, what’s the “carbon footprint” of his appearance on ABC???
Also, did he not breathe for a year?
Actually any of us could “shun toilet paper” for a year with no difficulty ... re-using garbage (last years phone book) would do the job just as well as the old Sears catalog did 100 years ago. I didn’t read anywhere that he actually did without some method of cleaning up. The only drawback would be a little wasted time in working the paper a bit to soften it before use.

Don’t shake his hand.
If he’s still breathing he’s adding to the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, so it seems to me his project failed.
One can only hope his water bill increased significantly during that year.
But I doubt it.
Law of unintended consequences is showing up more every day.
No impact man, I would guess, has created significant impact on his social life by his lifestyle choices.
This guy is completely full of, well sh!t. BaDaBing.
He claims to purchase locally grown food - farmers leave an impact
if he goes to the bathroom - he leaves an impact
Breathing leaves and impact, albeit tiny
Bathing leaves an impact
Yet the meda never comes up with this.....
I have confidence in your respect for your family and mankind in general that you did NOT get on the same ride and seat after Impacted Man exited.
;)
TP aside, I applaud his efforts. Ya know that idea that if you go too far in one direction you’ll end up coming back from the other side? What he did was a great exercise in survivalism - hardly a Leftist notion. He examined his life, simplified, got in touch with where it all comes from, and developed self-reliant ways (insofar as he still lived deep in a city). Should disaster have befallen his region, he would have been one of the few to get by - considering most of his neighbors couldn’t even get home or open a can without “the grid”. Inconvenient at times, yes, but that’s the tradeoff for independence.
He probably used rags like cloth diapers and washed them.
Nasty freak.
Point well taken.
